At the 2010 Ford Mustang debut in Santa Monica, Mark Fields told us that the Blue Oval would reveal "another chapter in the Mustang story" at the Detroit Auto Show next month. If the camouflaged Shelbys running around Motown were anything to go by, the "next chapter" would come in the form of the new GT500. While Ford has yet to officially announce the car or when it will make its debut, a leaked order guide posted on MustangBlog.com confirms that the car will be produced as a 2010 model and reveals new details about the updated Shelby.

In addition to the new-for-2010 sheetmetal, the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 benefits from a set of 19-inch wheels (the convertible gets new 18-inchers) and comes equipped with a new aluminum hood with a power dome and a single functional heat extractor. The supercharged 5.4L V8 remains, and although specific power output is not listed, the new model will offer "increased performance." A 3.55 axle ratio is now standard, and the suspension has been tuned by SVT. Inside, an optional Electronics package provides a voice-activated nav system and dual climate control. The leather seats will feature a stripe that color coordinates with the exterior stripes as well as Alcantera accents. New exterior colors will correspond with the standard 2010 Mustang and include Grabber Blue, Kona Blue, Sterling Grey, and more.

have you looked at the weight of the competitors? both the new camaro z28(now dead) and the srt8 challenger are well over 200lbs heavier than the gt500!!!:poke:

Wait this is news to me, has the new Camaro offically been killed already???????

the camaro will be released. gm was planning on releasing the z28 with the lsa engine(blown 6.2 550+ hp) but have since left it on the drawing boards among their financial situation.

v6 camaro and ls3 ss camaro will be built. the lsa z28 is currently dead.

ON D BIT- You have good car information. How do you think the ss and GT500 will compare to one another?

They won't. :nonono: The GT500 will outperform it. Both cars will weigh about the same, but the (current) GT500 will still have 78 more hp. :coolman: Just do the math. :read: I think an SRT Challenger and the SS would be a better comparison.

as captain stated they wont. ford guys will say the gt500 is better. and the gm guys will compare the ss to the mustang gt(2010) just to say how much better it is. they will also say ford needs a blower to beet them. this is because they know as well that gt500 is a better performer. so neither the ford or gm guys will compare the gt500 to the ls3 camaro.

it will be interesting how they handle. the camaro has the irs and presumably better weight ratio(less in front from an al block, more in back from the irs) so it is possible that the camaro could out corner the gt500. if this is true and by how much we dont know yet.

gt500 12.4 @ 116
ss 12.7 @ 113

Awesome so a mild mod 99-04 4v and a terminator will be good runs for it. :)

it will be as fast as a stock term. however the n/a 4 valve is a good bit slower. you are looking at 6 to 7 mph at the end of the 1320. yes mild mods gears and tires will get you to 12.6 or better but the speed will not be there.

what happens when the ss adds tires only?
the even bigger question is what about heads and cams on the ls3(480 rwhp;-)) it will be as fast as a pulley/tuned terminator without the worry of heatsoak.

I have heard it will be 540hp. Also it mentions a tuned suspension; so maybe the FRPP handling package won't be needed.

haha, the current GT500 has a SVT tuned suspension

Don't belive that crap for one second, the new one will be no different, it will be a great canvas for an artist, ah tuner to work his magic

Well.. Iv got a 346cid n/a Vette that runs just fine.. My combo 4 years ago took a 2.6 Whipple Cobra with a Drag-Pack and all to beat it.. So, IMO They Need a Blower to run with US..;-)
