I've been searching for a beater/commuter car to take to and from work. Was looking to get peoples input of the 2005 - 2007 Ford Focus (ZX5, ZX3) from a reliability stand point. 05 I believe started the year where they converted from timing belts to timing chains on the 2.0L which is a plus.

Open to feedback. Thanks!

The changeover to chains started on the 2.3L and then carried over to the non SVT 2.0 around 2004. They are pretty reliable. Most common things are outside door handle reinforcements, AIR injection valves and pumps, cats if not taken care of, and window regulators.

I would have no issue owning one. Personally I would not get an SVT model, parts related to the engine cost more and some are becoming obsolete like with Terminator parts.

The Duratec powered cars are very reliable cars, not as fun or nice as an SVT but even a regular Focus is a fun daily because they all handle quite well.
