01 does have 4 thread heads which does spit plugs. If it does all you need to do is install a timesert and your good to go.

I bought a 2000 f150 extended cab with 64k original miles, 5.4 liter about a year ago for $4300 but this is when gas was high. No problems with the truck have also towed about 5000 pounds up grades and so on as it came with the factory tow package.

I have a 2002 xlt ext cab with 85K miles and all the offroad goodies. I drive it hard offroad, tow, and use it for a DD. I LOVE IT!

Here's a picture of my DD. It's a 98 4X4 supercab XLT with 125,000 miles. It has the 5.4, E4OD, off road package. Only normal maintenance and tires, brakes, battery, COP's. Runs great with no issues.

They are great trucks if you take good care of em. only real issues are shooting plugs and some of the 5.4's have been known to crap head gaskets

These year model trucks have problems with the coils on the spark plugs going bad. And the ball joints going bad. Other than that they are great trucks and I have had mine for 2 years and only replaced these items once. That is a great deal on that truck IMO.

I'd start by cleaning the grounds and if that doesn't help it might be time to replace the starter.
