I really want to add a shelby to my garage but am torn between the 11/12 and the 13/14. The newer ones are more than I want to pay. Are the 11/12 that far behind because the prices on them have dropped pretty good. Are they the better deal? Are the 13/14 that much more of a car? I don't know whether to wait for the 13/14 to drop in price or not.

Just get an 11 and add a 13/14 TVS ....best of both worlds

At issue is the fact that you don't feel you can quite afford the '13-'14 right now. If you're inclined not to wait, then the decision is easier to make. If a low mileage '11 can save you some fair money over the average '13-'14, and it fits into your budget, consider the low mileage '11.

I test drove a 12 before I bought my 14. I dont remember the 12 being that much slower than the 14 in a straight line. im sure side by side, stock for stock (I know some jackass is gonna chime in with his xyz mod) the 14 will pull away handily...

My thing is if the 13/14 is that much more of a car I would rather wait till I could afford one then to buy an 11/12 and eventually end up in a 13/14 anyway. But if they are close to the same car I would rather go ahead an enjoy the 11/12 now.

I would get an '11 or '12 w/Recaros and do some weight savings mods, look up svtp member BigDan and see what he did.

I would rather have a 13/14, but I do think the 11/12 SVTPP cars are noticeably better looking particularly since they aren't rocking that quad tip exhaust which I do not like at all on a Mustang. I also prefer the 11/12 SVTPP wheels to the 13/14 SVTPP wheels.

One nice benefit that the 13/14 has that won't be as easy/cheap to mod on the 11/12 is the tranny gearing.

I prefer the wheels on the 11/12 also the 12 are lighter up front than the 13's. I drove a 12 with the svtpp and it was impressive handled good had good braking the only thing is that I noticed it was a one legger. 2012 with the recaros and svtpp should do the trick

IMHO i would wait. after driving a 13 gt500, i wish i would have

Why? Can you explain what the difference was?

The way I see it is if you like the look of both cars equally then get the 11/12. Yes, the 13/14 is faster stock but who keeps them stock? The 5.8 has more ultimate potential but you can push the 5.4 to levels that will make most people very satisfied for far less than what you end up spending on the 13.

I am the opposite on appearance. The unpainted side skirts and rear pieces on the 11/12 look cheap in comparison to the 13/14. The entire rear looks cleaner with the updated taillights and blacked out panel. I do not like the skinny stripes on the performance pack for the 11/12. You are also getting HIDs and the updated grill/lower splitter on the 13/14.

OP - What is your budget and what are the 12's going for? You may be able to find a deal on a used base model 13/14 that would get you close enough to justify the extra money.

I will agree with you on those things. The painted sideshirts, and new taillights on the 13/14 GT500's are better looking pieces than the ones on the 11/12 GT500's IMO. I'm just not a fan of quad tips on a Mustang, and the 13/14 wheels look a little busy, and I'm not much on dark painted wheel usually.

Another nice feature that the 13/14's have in the 15" 6 piston front brakes, and I believe 13" rear rotors.

12 Hell buy a 2010 put a tvs on it for 1800 and call it a day. I'd rather drive a modded 07-2012 gt500 than a stock 13-14 gt500
