I'm in the process of swapping a navigator motor into my 04 F150.

I've sorted out almost all the snags, but one that is troubling me is how little room there is on the passenger side of the motor. So little room in fact, that I am unable to bolt the A/C compressor to the engine because it hits the frame.

I noticed the passenger side frame mount has a slot in it, but the driver side is a through bolt that is not slotted. I'm not sure how to move the motor more to the driver's side, so I thought I'd ask for some tips.

Here are the obligatory pictures of my progress.

Not at all. It's been an experience to say the least.

I've got a lot in this swap. Probably about 3000-3500. I could have just bought a low mileage or maybe even new motor for that.

Man I have been thinking about doing a 4.6 4v in the older model. 97-03 I think that's is the year model. I have the motor from my old 4v swap gt (R.I.P). It a 01 cobra motor. Good luck with this swap. I'm going to watch this to see how it goes

There are adapter plates that will work, or some people have added material to the block and drilled/tapped the necessary holes.

I'm almost finished, but I've got some more parts to buy. I'm currently in the process of installing the electric fan controller.

Things that remain-

Intake tube
Coolant crossover tube
vacuum lines
radiator hoses
wiring up fan controller to electric fans
various fluids
tuning

I've got entirely too much money in this swap, some of which could have been avoided if I knew some components wouldn't work.

I've got 3 project vehicles at the moment, and my wife has frozen my spending until I eliminate one of these projects. I'll be keeping the truck and the cobra of course.

I'll try to get some pictures of the current progress tomorrow. Since this was a junkyard motor, last weekend I cranked it with the starter to try to verify no knocking/ticking. So far so good.

I'm really glad I found this. I'm seriously considering doing this exact same swap into my 06 F150. I already have a donor engine, which came from a wrecked Navigator. I have the whole vehicle in case I need anything else besides the engine itself. If you don't mind, I'd love to pick your brain a bit to help me decide if the swap is worthwhile.

I can tell you the intake wasn't working great for me. no torque. So now I'm putting an eaton on it

Also if your truck has the 5.4, swap to a 4.6 Computer. Same pin out but no vct

Awesome! I've got an 06 f150 ive been thinking about getting a 2011 coyote or something for but this would be a cool alternative. Hmm should it run off the stock ecu? I wonder if that would work using sct or HP tuners to turn off the cam phaser control the same way you would if you just locked out the 3v cams.

the op's a/c issue sounds really weird to me because wouldn't the a/c compressor be the same exact location on any 4.6 or 5.4? same deal with motor mounts. i thought those mounting points for all the modular blocks would be identical (?)

i would love to do an engine upgrade to my truck someday, probably would lean towards a coyote. frpp usually has some nice kits that allow retrofitting to any year vehicle. plus the 04-up is drive by wire anyway

Need help with my 05 f150 4 valve swap. Why must a intake from the boss be used and is it plug and play from the Navi to the 05 F150, both are 5.4 engine just want the dohc instead of a rebuilt 3v mine went out 305,000 miles ! Not bad for diesel sounding gasoline.
