i've been posting up my kill stories lately, might as well post up a death

not sure exactly what year camaro, and i'm not sure what trim level it was cuz i could see no badges, but i am assuming the base V8 if they made it. i hope it wasnt a V6 lol

anyway both at a light we knew it was on, he jumped out quickly, then i lost my game and totally lit up 1st gear, and then it popped out of gear, what a mess. thats what i get for running my regular street tires instead of the drag radials. tried to play catch up, but ran out of room.

you win some, you lose some

Funny the first thing I look for is the tire package on the other car. Someone pulls along side of me with 15" Welds wrapped in MT DR's I might be in trouble. That goes for the Hondas as well.

Your CO has 4:10 gears and the SB has 3:55? I would be really interested to know what mph your at in 3rd gear with the 4:10 at 6500 rpm.

I have a co vert with 3.73 and a sb coupe with 4.10. sometimes I think the 4.10 are a little too deep for a daily driven street car. around town it is fine but it winds a little too high at highway speeds. I will let you know what it is at 6500 3rd gear

I think the 3.73s are perfect for my vert

I've thought about going to 3.73 or even 3.90. What I wish I knew is how much it would increase my 60-130 time. I know I would have to add in an extra shift into 5th, but roll races are usually won or lost by that point anyway. I've tried to search for a Terminator spec T56 gear calculator but haven't found one, but tbh I haven't put in that much effort.

Edit: If you think about it I would love to know 6500 in 3rd and 4th on both of your cars. Obviously you can just check 3250 to make it easier and safer.

lol yeah. I know that at the strip with my coupe and 4.10 gear, I was trapping right about 120mph. it was a perfect gear for the strip because I was winding out right at redline as I was just crossing the traps.

the coupe is definitely "tighter" with more of a performance feel. you can really tell the difference just in the way it rides and handles. both cars are setup pretty much the exact same way and ive had the vert since new so I can tell that it has never handled or felt "race car-ish" lol as good as the coupe does, even tho I have high miles on my vert now.

nothing like being able to drop the top tho when the weather is right.

i checked it out this weekend:

4.10 gear @ 3250/6500 rpm

3rd gear = 46/92 mph

4th gear = 60/120 mph

Interesting, thanks. I'm pretty sure the top of 4th with the stock 3.55 is either 134 or 136, I need to double check. When does the vert get to come out to play to check the 3.73? I really think I might go to a 3.90. I think for 60mph roll racing it might be perfect. I just have to figure out if 5th can handle a few seconds of pulling at those speed if needed, or if it really will grenade.

i'll check it out on the 3.73s. now you've got me curious too, lol.

I still have my stock 3.55s sitting in the garage, and sometimes I consider putting them back in my coupe. the 4.10s might just be a little too deep for the lighter coupe on 26's...

if I had a press and some of the special tools for the ring/pinion setup I would actually like to give it a try myself this time

For what's it worth, I have a stock t56 and stock rear end and with MT 305/35/18 tires I can run 4th gear out to closer to 150 if that helps. I also always wondered what lower gearing would do with these since the torque is so brutal at lower rpms, and whether it would be counterproductive due to traction issues arising.
Also, that's going closer to 7k rpm iirc

r.d.p. here's my vert's mph with the 3.73s on a 26 inch tire:

3.73 gear @ 3250/6500 rpm

3rd gear = 51/102 mph

4th gear = 66/132 mph

Thanks man. Checked my car last night - stock 3.55 with a 295/35/18 that should be right around 26". I forgot to check 3rd, but 4th gear is dead on 70 mph @ 3250, so 140 at 6500. So going to a 3.73 cost you 8mph, I probably would have guess about 6.

Would you still be running a 26" tire? I have a 3.90 set in mine, but run the mickey dr pros that are a 28" tire. I've been 140 in 4th with that set up.
