Very interesting discussion. I am new to this forum, but I also have a pretty in depth experience with both the Z06 and the GT500. I have a 2009 Z06, stock power, but upgraded rotors, pads, cooling ducts, track alignment, corner weighted, and Hoosiers. I also have a 2007 GT500 that I purchased for the track, and it had about $10K in mods when I bought it. After my first track week-end, I had to upgrade the cooling system. After the second week-end I cooked the brakes, and upgraded to DBA rotors and Hawk pads. At 525 RWHP, it is still no match for the Z06. At least 3 seconds slower at VIR. The GT500 (stock) is 660 lbs heavier (3920) than the Z06 (3260), the aerodynamics is inferior, the front / rear weight distribution (58% / 42%) is not as good as the Z06 (50/50), and the Z06 has a better suspension. Not a fair fight at all. With that said, the Z06 is also $25-30K more expensive. My goal is to make my GT500 run equal to the Z06. My winter project is to reduce the GT500 weight by 500 lbs, add a 10% overdrive pulley (3-4 lbs. of boost) and long tube headers, which should get it close to 600 RWHP after a re-tune, add a new suspension set-up (coilovers, watts link, etc.) and lighter wheels. Estimated cost of $10-12K. All that just to run even with the Z06. I am also an instructor for NASA and three other groups, so I feel qualified to make a fair comparison. Don't get me wrong, I love both the GT500 and Z06. I have actually learned a lot more about the GT500 and how to deal with the challenge of running with the Z06. They are both a blast to drive, but you just can't beat an "out of the box" Z06 for the track.
