UPDATE 06 Jan, 2017:
So got some bad news today. There's a crack in the head from the seat of an intake valve to the plug hole for the same cylinder that melted the piston. So now I'm waiting to hear back from the machine shop to see if he will be able to repair said crack. So in the meantime...
I have had the car since mid 2008, bought it used with 23k on it and stock minus a flowmaster super-44 catback. I don't know so much about colder air as the car was in Tucson and it happened (as near as I can tell) in September or October. The guy thats doing the engine has said that bad gas or...
UPDATE:
Motor came apart and here's a better picture of the piston. He sent me pictures of all 8 but this is the only one that has any type of unusual or abnormal wear, all the others look just fine.
As of right now, I don't know what the cause was. The guys working on the car have never seen a piston melt like this and all the other pistons are perfect. The car will be getting a re-tune after the motor is broken in and going from there. I'm going to have the injectors tested as well to...

Thanks for all the input guys. To start off, 4k does sound a little low but for what its worth, I know 2 guys here in town that took there cobras there for similar work and they payed around the same.

Thank you for this information. I'm going to spend some time reading and read and reading some more. I should have some updates tomorrow on decisions and whats going to be happening.
Thanks again.
Hey guys, I've been out of the loop for a while and have come crawling back looking for some help. I have an 03 cobra (mods in signature) and it has apparently melted a piston.
Here's some back story:
I left the car with my brother and father while I left for Afghanistan figuring they would...
So, I was driving to work this morning and everything was going fine. I make a left hand turn and I start to hear what sounds like a crunching noise and smell something burning. So I pulled over and listen. I still hear what I can describe as a crunching sounds and some metal on metal noises. I...
So, the other night, I got ran off the road. Guy appeared to be texting an was coming head on at me into my lane and when I swerved, I hit the edge of one of those little concrete pads that they put street lights onto with my passenger side chamber. Thankfully, the dammage was all to the exhaust...
So I'm in the Army and just pcs'd to fort bliss, TX. Problem is that there is no 93 octane anywhere that I have looked. Does anyone know where I can get 93 octane at? I've seen like 4 terminators in the last week so they have gotta be getting it from some where. Or are they just getting 91 and...
