Hi Mark,
Good hearing from you. I've never heard of a 95R having any issues. Maybe take it to a paint shop and let them give you an opinion on what it is and corrective measures.
Tom
I can't speak on the 93R but the 95R and 00R rims have date codes on the back of the spokes. None of them had the build number indicated. You can use the date code to determine whether they were within the window of originality prior to the date the cars were built at DAP.
I know for certain...
Hey Ken!
Good hearing from you checking in. I think that is Jim Steelman in the black Hacker Clone. He bought it from Mike Jacobs prior to you purchasing the 95R. Not sure who is the 00R coming out of the corner.
I heard you sold the Hacker 95R. Did it go to Dallas?
Tom
WOW! And thank you for this post. It is encouraging to hear how others feel about Zippo and the other Rs of this era. To me, they are extra special since this whole production run of 250 cars actually fulfilled their intention of being successful race cars. Whether raced professionally...
I haven't look at the ad but a lot of people sell 95 and 00 R rims as "original R rims". They confuse REAL R rims with those offered for years in Ford Motorsport/Racing. Unfortunately, buyers also think they are getting ultra rare rims and pay up.
Tom
Yep, I understand. I'm only on FB to stay up with my car friends and keep up with those communities. These internet forums are pretty dead unfortunately.
Tom
I'm still here once or twice a week.
There are a number of us on Facebook. There is a specific 1995 R forum and also a 93-95-00 R forum. You can search for them and they should pop up.
Tom
I remember 174 when it came out in the magazine. It was a really sharp car. Mark Ray built at least 2 95Rs back in the day. That car was heavily modified. If it has many original motor parts it would surprise me. You've got a good track car that you can enjoy. I honestly don't know how...
I appreciate the kind words. It's definitely iconic. Back when I found out it was for sale I told my wife if I didn't buy it, I'd never get another chance! It's been in my garage for 20 years now!!! Tom
As stated, the side exhaust would be the only concern. There's more activity on FB forums. There are a couple that have 00R owners. You may get more response there.
Tom
Yes, they taper but that is front to back and it varies over the entire length of the car. I wouldn't risk it with your local guy. Buy the kit from Big Worm because they are going to have the correct measurements then get your local to install.
Tom
This sounds like a viable alternative. It's way cheaper than a bladder rebuild and more legitimate than going to a street tank.
Sending you a PM about the ebay conversation we're having.
Tom
I'll say this about these tanks, you don't have much of a choice if he agrees and he can charge darn near what he wants. I you own an R with a fuel cell the bladder WILL LEAK. It is just a matter of when. I was genuinely shocked when more owners didn't buy on that group purchase. I just...
There was a last-time group purchase over a year ago, as I recall. At the time, he said he wasn't going to build them ever again. I'm sure the right amount of money or orders may change his mind.
I've ordered a few of them and he was always stand-up to work with.
As an alternative, Fuel Safe...
