OK, sounds stupid, but.....just traded my '03 Cobra for a 2016 GT/CS convertible. Came with a VMP S/C installed, but no documentation at all. Got it at a Ford dealer of all places, and the car was priced so the S/C setup was essentially free. Don't have any experience with VMP stuff...
Just broke the second of two MMS replacement clutch cables in 9 months. Have a 3 hook aluminum quadrant, firewall adjuster and Spec Stage 2+ clutch with reduced pedal pressure; it's nowhere near as hard as a stock clutch. Both times, the cable snapped at the quadrant end. Supposedly the MMS...
Looks like clutch time. Currently has a Spec stage 2+/low pedal effort plate. Spec doesn't seem to make these any more or I'd just replace it; it's an ok street clutch. What do you guys recommend for a DD with the same or lower pedal effort. Dual disk is ok by me if that's the way to go...
Been 2 years since a full head cleanup put the beast back in shape. Now Im stumped. Lately its been breaking the tires loose at light part throttle in 2nd and even 3rd ( rolling at 50 mph!). Thought the traction loc might be going out but there are two nice, clean, even rear tire marks in my...
Long post - bear with me here......
After 97,000 miles, 25k of which has been Whipple 2.3 blasted, my motor is getting sick. Definitely some exhaust getting into the water - open the reservoir when it's hot and the coolant is foamy and has a distinct exhaust smell. One or two cylinders...
Been having some trouble with one or more cylinders misfiring under load. Idle and light part throttle engine runs perfect. Compression and leakdown tests are good. Ford factory diagnostic tool doesn't find any misfire counts.
Running NGK TR6 plugs gapped at .037, they have about 25,000 on...
Just finished my Spec 3+ install and 26-spline input shaft conversion. It's great. Almost like driving a GT, only it's fast....lol.
Question: How much slack should I put in the clutch cable? I'd put in a FRPP aluminum quadrant a couple years ago; the factory self adjusting quadrant keeps...
Having a little fun toying with an S197 GT on the way to a client meeting last Friday (just dropped in in 4th and left him in the dust) when suddenly there was a loud "POP" and the motor started running as if a couple of cylinders were misfiring. Immediately backed off the gas, coasted back to...
Have a lash adjuster that leaks down when the engine is off. Gives me a healthy, loud ticking noise at the cam follower until it pumps up (about a minute or so). It's only a matter of time.
Any way to get these out without tearing the whole front of the motor off and pulling the cams?
Had this car two years and the coolant level in the reservoir never budged, not so much as an 8th of an inch. Was checking under the hood the other night and the reservoir was empty. Refilled it, ran it for a day, about 20 miles, and let it cool off. Reservoir was 1//2 empty.
There's...
Had my SES light come on while waiting in traffic yesterday. Checked the code when I got home and returned P104 lean condition detected. Haven't been able to locate any vacuum leaks; code is cleared and the car has been driven 50 miles more without the SES light coming back on, but was...
In need of 01-04 passenger side rear interior quarter trim panel in charcoal gray with cutouts for Mach 460 sound system. Cracked the rear upper lip off of mine trying to get to the conv top lift cylinder and cant seem to get the snapped off piece to stay glued to the rest of the panel. PM me...

The 'ol Cobra is getting to be a "used car", even though it's mechanically solid and has only 70K on it. Got about all the HP out of it I can safely use, and the motor and driveline oughta hold up for another few years. It is getting a bit cosmetically challenged. I can put some money into...
Put in a Spec Stage 2+ with FRPP TOB and Ford Racing adjustable cable and aluminum quadrant. Worked ok for a couple of days then developed sudden huge free play in pedal (5 inches plus). Reset the adjustable cable to get the free play out of the pedal, but the clutch will not release.
Any...
Just picked up an 03 dark shadow gray convertible so we can have his and hers Cobras. This one came with the stock Eaton blower and factory tune.
The blower has what measures out to be a 2.92 pulley. It has three 90 mm Motoblue idlers (yeah, I've read the horror stories, but they'll stay...
Cruising home on US 59 last Saturday night, saw menacing pencil beam HIDleadlights in the mirror. Thought it was a Corvette that wanted to play. He finally manged to pull along side me. I dropped just to 4th at 80 and walked away from him (I minded by 6k limit until I get my fuel pump issues...
Dynoed the yellow beast a week ago Sunday. Clutch was slipping all the way, and we had to cut the run short at 5750 or so because we were running out of fuel pump. Once those are fixed I think we have a 600 rwhp car for sure. JDM has the timing cranked back to 17 degrees so there's even more...
I've posted a few times on here about fast idle problems with my 03 Cobra since last summer. I was all set to yank the intake/blower to get to the PCV hose that connects to a fitting on the lower intake, change out injector o-rings, blower base gasket and intake gasket, when lo and behold, the...
Having high idle prob. for the last 6 months or so. Finally traced it to the PCV hose that runs under the lower intake to the T at the back of the motor.
Question: what's the 90 degree fitting that the hose hooks up to on the base of the lower intake? Is it just a right angle fitting or is...
Putting the Cobra in a ditch in January wasn't enough damage this year, apparently. I got a little impatient with the farmers tooling along 15 below the limit on the way to a car show and spun the vette out trying to pass 'em. :fm:
It wasn't pretty, but I still have no idea how I backed into...
Started having an idle speed problem about 2 weeks ago. Car would idle at 1200 or so. I could blip the throttle and get it back to 750 where it's programmed. In the last couple of days, idle speed's gone up to 1500, and the throttle blip doesn't work any more.
I'm running with the IAC wire...
Old clutch is getting a little worn; releases close to the end of pedal travel and I need a new release bearing anyway. What do you guys recommend for a replacement? Car is my DD, so stuff like Spec stage 3+ is probably not a good idea. Making 540 at the wheels with Whipple/3.5 pulley.
Thanks
It was in the low 20s here last Friday. Here's the result of dropping into second at 40 to pass a slowpopke on FM 762 in Richmond. The tires just let go and couldn't be steered to grip the road again.
Best we can tell after a good power washing, the only damage was a couple of minor...
