Thank you everyone so much! My jeep is alive and healthy again. Never buy a starter other than a brand new oem one from the dealership. It was only $40 more than the oriellys one but it works perfectly unlike that POS one from the parts store. Again thank you.

Oriellys website lists R612883B as the part number. The box i have says the same number...but A at the end! However, i checked oriellys website for the part number on the box and thier website says the one i have also fits my jeep. Ugh

No shim fell out. I just checked the old starter to make sure a shim didnt stick to it, and there was no shim there either. There wasnt a shim stuck to the bellhousing either.

UPDATE: I replaced the starter, the jeep now starts up fine, but now it makes an awful low volume screaching noise kind like if the starter and flywheel gear mesh wasnt getting along. I looked at what flywheel teeth i could see when the starter was off and the teeth looked fine. The old...

UPDATE: I tried starting the jeep again when i got home. I didnt rock the jeep or anything. I very gently got in and turned the key....it fired right up. And it ran perfectly. I doubt it is a problem with air, fuel or spark as 30 minutes before this started happening it was running fine. It idled for 5 minutes while i talked to a neighbor without even a hickup. I moved it out to the street and parked it for only about 10 minutes, then i went to start it again....and...

I have not tried to push start. It is parked on the street in front of my house and it is facing a downhill section where if it doesnt start, then it will be stuck in the valley. I will check and make sure the starter bolts havent come loose or anything tonight.
