Optimal rear gear at the track takes you through the traps in 4th gear at your optimal shift point (redline in your case, I think). This is just a mathematical calculation and you can use an online gear/tire/speed calculator for. If you want to go with taller gears for the street (most do)...

Light cars. 500 rwhp vette is no slouch. I may carch flack, but I used to figure it took an extra 100 rwhp for a termi against a C6Z. The Z is lighter though so maybe at 80rwhp, you're still there. Could be a driver's race.
