Minor update on the 5.4 3v Roush
Got a front bumper directly from roush took 8-9 months to be made/delivered, fresh laser red paint, also got a set of staggered Japanese kosei roush wheels to go with it had those painted bronze, getting final assembly done now almost ready to get back on the road
Yea with a lift it’s very easy
Remove driveshaft, shifter assembly/clutch cable or auto shifter cable off trans
Drain engine, trans, power steering, freon, remove battery, front wheels, steering shaft, unhook exhaust at manifolds n at catback
Unhook wiring harness connectors at passenger rear of...
Got the correct size injectors on it, got the throttle body on it, installed new shocks n struts, bled the brakes, hooked up the amp power wire to a battery in the trunk for now n took it for a drive
Pulls great but fuel trims lean out in higher rpm’s definitely could benefit from a tune might...
Got the suspension assembled, sealed up the diff, n replaced the drive shaft u joints. Also got a Honda power steering reservoir with bracket installed in place of the battery tray. Swapped out the front brakes but they fit a bit tight inside the 18s I’m looking at getting some 19s of a 2015 Gt...
The 2v elbow shouldn’t be much of a restriction the mustang throttle body is 70mm I believe the 5.4 3v throttle body is 75mm. I’ve ordered a 75mm throttle body should be here soon also had to find some 21lb/hr ev14 injectors since the only ones I had laying around are 24lb/hr n fuel trims are...
Got the exhaust all done today I got it tucked up tight so hopefully it won’t get dinged up anymore
I got the lightning style tips on I think they look pretty good they’re also dual walled so they don’t get too hot to touch
Need to finish the suspension/brakes then I can take it for a drive
Some before n after pics of the engine n exhaust. Still need to finish up the rest of the exhaust
Also got an x brace off an sn95 convertible from offerup for $20 it fit good just had to modify the front part of it to have it properly bolted on
Found a supercharger kit Im going save up for I...
I took this video today after getting the vacuum leak fixed, rear o2s, n x pipe installed. Still have not finished both tailpipes
Once I get the exhaust all done I’ll get a better video n rev it up
Found my vacuum leak i accidentally drilled too far on the passenger side when I was drilling out a hole to install a freeze plug to close the vacuum port for the evap purge valve hose on the 5.4 manifold. Ended up plugging it from underneath as well runs a lot better no dtcs so far after...
Got the cats on with the front o2s installed also got the radiator on there n filled it with water, filled the engine with oil n it started up after a few tries. It’s definitely got a vacuum leak at the bottom of the intake manifold not sure if it’s a port I forgot to plug off or if there’s any...
Got it together for the most part. Ended up using the 1/2” k member spacers. I was able to reuse the mustang heater hoses with some small modifications. The intake tube n air filter fit perfect even around the strut tower brace. Also got the oil cooler mounted n plumbed.
Waiting on new rad...
Got the wiring done. Also swapped the iac for a crown Vic one it holds the connector out straight facing the throttle body instead of pointing it upwards towards the hood. Got all the accessories on n belt installed.
Also got the fuel rail held down n extended wiring for the cam sensor, dpfe...
I lowered the car down just to see how it all fits. Seems good all around, egr tube might be tight by the strut tower brace also may do a 1/2” k member spacer since it’s tight with the hood shut. But the hood does shut. Still need to get the wiring harness on to see where I’ll need to modify it...
Got the new clutch in today used the old flywheel n got the 5.4 mated to the trans
Also got it all set back down on the k member just need to start attaching accessories. Exhaust manifold seems like it should clear the steering shaft
Got the motor n trans separated. Won’t be needing a flywheel it has a lightly used aluminum one on it.
I also tore the engine down to get the crank out. Forged crank with some damaged journals. If anyone is interested I’d sell it for $500+ shipping
I’ll start getting it back together once my...
Im sure that I’ll have some stuff to sell let me know what you’re interested in.
Yea the intake spacer/adapter worked out a lot better than I thought it would hopefully everything fits under the hood n strut tower brace
I got the drivetrain out just need to separate it hoping to have all that...
Started pulling the engine today should be out soon.
I’ll probably delete the mufflers since the inlet on the passenger side one is busted out n so far the only same side in/out mufflers I can find are about 180 each. Also deleted the secondary cats n cut the h pipe off to replace with a 2.5 x pipe
Stock chubby injectors won’t fit properly. Injector doesn’t sit straight. I have some ev14 injectors that fit so I’ll have to replace the injector pigtails but the gt 2v fuel rails fits the 3v manifold nice just need to make some hold down brackets
Run the cobra maf it’ll read the same then since you’re welding the cobra inlet on the passenger side you should be able to use the oem cobra intake tube n air filter housing
The cobra throttle body should be good enough for now there’s also larger aftermarket ones that you could swap in later
Awesome yes boss 260 manifold is the best in my opinion.
But you may need bigger k member spacers to clear the hydroboost I used a 1” spacer on the 5.4 swap in the pics n it barely cleared. You can also trim the coil cover a bit but I didn’t want to do that
I’d recommend at least doing new...
1. If using the town car trans yes your driveshaft will need to be shortened. I’d suggest going manual trans either 5spd or 6spd
If staying auto you’ll need to get an 8 bolt flexplate. May have to drill holes to match your torque converter studs since the 8 bolt flexplates have a larger bolt...
