Another 12k mile sample goes in Monday Troy. I believe this may be my last fill with Amsoil before switching over to Schaefer's Supreme 9000 for personal reasons.
The information in this thread is STILL CORRECT for S197's.
Keep in mind this is an S197 subforum, not SN95. Just to clear any potential confusion for anyone reading this thread in the future.
Yes real Brembos. AM had the LH caliper on Black Friday clearance for $110. I bought two, resold the spare, and purchased one from Tascaparts for $270ish. I bought the 2012 GT500 specs which came powdercoated (or painted, not sure) black with the white Brembo logo. The AM calipers drop shipped...
Your listing is correct. I can't attest to whether or not the Autozone calipers come with the pad mounting hardware. Some pad sets come with them also, though some don't.
You don't NEED dust shields. The base shields will work but are a hair small.
You don't NEED new brake lines but while...

I caught Michelin Pilot Sport A/S3's on clearance several times (265/xxR19) (285/35r19) for $108 and $118 respectively. I bought eight 285's for the rear and two 265's for the front. Still waiting to put the 265's on and have already used 4 of the 285's. Still have 4 in...
Just FYI the crossover tube can now be purchased separately. Bending lines is very easy if you pack them with sand. No worries about collapsing a wall in and no using a janky tube bender. Just clean them out thoroughly afterwards.
The most commonly recommended mix is 2 qts Amsoil MTF, .7 qts Amsoil MTG. I run the opposite of that though due to being in a hot climate.
Fluid might help a tad but what'll really help you (if damage hasn't already been done) is a new clutch.
Exactly my point. Very few differences and even the average, decently informed consumer who knows what Brembos should look like, very well may not be able to tell the difference. Same with things like Otter Box phone cases and aftermarket batteries. They can be 100% identical and you'd never...
Understandable. The huge drop in price is due to several reasons 1) Greater supply and less demand for authentic used Brembos due to the aftermarket "appeal" of modding S197's declining due to the release of the S550, 2) An overseas manufacturer making cheap reproductions and creating readily...
See "So you want Brembo brakes" thread in this section.
Be aware that the the calipers offered at Autozone/Advance/Etc and now Chinese reproductions and not authentic Brembos that have been rebuilt. Personally I would search for someone selling a used Brembo take-off kit.
Ensure you follow the proper bleed sequence for the Brembos and are bleeding from both bleeders. Can't remember the sequence. A quick google search should warrant the info you need. It's preferred you bleed with the engine running.
Yes Stang99LX but the A1's you have are TRUE remanufactured...
It appears as if A1 Cardone is no longer offering only re-manufactured units....These are indeed Brembo knockoffs.
My original message,
"Hi,
I'm preparing for the upcoming autocross season and I have a question regarding a pair of brake calipers. Are Part Numbers 18-5128/18-5129 authentic...
I emailed A1 Cardone directly about this several months ago and they assured me that they ARE in fact actual Brembos. Unfortunately I no longer have the email as I never figured this argument would arise.
My best guess would be that they shave off the FOMOCO/Brembo markings in order to avoid...
Dependant on what all your rear needs it may be more logical to just buy a reman unit from the auto parts store for $1250. Rebuild is typically $750-1100 depending on what all it needs. That or used units go for $500 all day on craigslist around the state.
Good luck. I've tried to get quotes from two of the more known shops in the past two weeks. One shop located in Ft Mill SC, the other in Greer SC. Neither have gotten back to me with a price. I can't think of any known shops in the Charleston area off the top of my head. I'm directly south of...
Sounds like it's the clutch. When the clutch goes out it makes a weird deep-toned hmm/hiss and quits. It can vary with RPM. I'd be willing to bet it was simply the clutch. Look at the area around the clutch and see if you see any signs of what looks like burned/melted rubber/plastic. If so then...
When do you plan on pulling it? I'm pulling mine out this weekend to send off for a rebuild. If you're going to do it in the next month or so I'd be extremely interested and I'm local-ish (could make the drive).
Common issue with Brembos for some odd reason. Never once had a brake squeal in the 75k miles I had the OEM setup on. Swap out for Brembos and have constant squealing. I just deal with it.
Latest sample. Took me a while to remember to post up. As always, beautiful. TBN indicates I could have ran this fill out to 17k miles. 149k miles on the engine at this change and right at 15k miles on the oil. Even at 152k miles I'm finding that I only burn about 1.5 qts for every 15k mile...
