Good possibility, I had an 03 with 70k that had a clogged cat. OP, disconnect the EGR tube from the intake manifold and take for a drive, you should be able to tell fairly quickly. If it's the 3.4 the intake manifold gasket is probably leaking and clogging things down the line...

Mine kind of did something similar when the fuel pump was on its last legs. I was lucky though, the pump gave out completely within a couple weeks of the intermittent starting. It had about 75k miles on it at the time.
