Wow. That is amazing on the high milers on here! Went through 3 engines and 2 T45s before 150k on my first 98. Car was cursed. Current 96 has 156k and still feels great...
Shouldn't be any real difference. Tailshaft housing is longer on the 98 Cobra T45. Same clutch, but you might want to go to a later 11" setup instead of the 98's 10.5" I did and am happy with the feel and the longevity of an 04 Cobra setup
A stroker rotating assembly can take it up to 5.0, but that's a lot of coin. Higher compression, corn, meth injection, a boost controller and a solid tune will get you to 700 easy.
Like the other folks have said, don't fear compression. I'm running 10.7:1
Cobras have knock sensors and can...
Glad you found a cool toy! The lifter tick may be a bad valve seat or head gasket on #7/8 there is a coolant dead end issue on all modulars, but it's much more common on the 4V cars. Sounds like a lifter tick. I've been there a few times before. I've have a 96, and a 2001 stuffed into a 98...
Wait for black Friday at modular head shop, mmr or any of the big modular suppliers. I bought a ton of stuff used on the marketplace here and on the corral. Took me a while, but it was worth it. You will be able to get 600 rwhp reliably with the On3. If you want PM me And I'll send you my build...
Fwiw, I was making 450/450 rwhp with 5# with the upgraded MP 70mm/.68ar turbo with the On3 Gen 2 setup when I started out and that was with 98 cobra intake cams and 10.67 custom DSS pistons, 4.75 stroker and a Snow Stg 2 meth kit.
Don't they have short lengths of adapter tubing at all of the major auto parts stores? Bubble on one end double flare on the other, etc. I've usually been able to find what I need without having to use adapters or make new lines, at least for the MC side of things.
Get an Aviator engine and swap it in. Only diff is forged crank, but if you get an 05 it will have the better heads. Then you can build your take out on your timetable.
Pretty sure they are the same, so I would use the newer springs
I am running DA castings with 98 cams

Brian Tooley has very reasonable springs. Been very happy with 2V, 4V and LS springs from him. BTR FORD 4V MODULAR SPRING SET - .500" LIFT - SP008-32

We have kind of similar builds (10.67:1 here), but I'm only running 10# with a gen2 FF On3 70mm/.68 AR, 98 cams and Teksid. I'm running modified stock 98 cobra rails on the 01 cobra intake with an aeromotive fpr, frpp 52# injectors and a Walbro TU227-HP2 300lph pump and It's at 450/450 at the...
70mm @ #10 with a Mishimoto. Plasma cut my radiator support to move radiator in it in and box it in using an 04 Cobra fan. I can light it up in Phoenix on a 115* day and not get past midway on the temp gauge. Good luck!

Wow, Last time I did that was about 3years ago. I scored a set for 350 shipped and with the rebuild I had about 525 into them.
