I'd be willing to bet the filler neck gasket is where your leak is coming from. The gas with ethanol turns them to mush. They also always seem to leak if disturbed (i.e. fuel pump replacement)
Wouldn't hurt to check the fuel filter connections too.
If you want to avoid the grind when going for reverse, push in the clutch and put it in 4th then reverse (clutch in the whole time).
If you're down on power in the upper RPMs suspect the IMRC (intake manifold runner control). They can be cleaned if the actuator still works or can be removed and...
It looks like if you shorten the hanger it's going to cause problems with the fit of the pipe after the muffler. Looks like the muffler should maybe be angled up in the back to tuck it up towards the back seat pan which would require a angled flange at the front of the muffler.
There is a SN95 Engine tag thread https://www.svtperformance.com/threads/official-96-98-engine-tag-info-thread.453437/
Might be able to fine better help there. That does look like the early engine tags but not too sure about the signatures. Might be able to find that team in the above...
I remember when I bought my 98 there was a SVO side exhaust available through Ford Racing Parts. They had a SVT convertable on the floor that they had added the exhaust to and the style bar (cosmetic roll bar looking thing).
When my original pump went out I replaced it with the SVT Focus pump. At the time it was much cheaper than a 98 Cobra pump and supposedly is capable of flowing more fuel. Whatever option you go with make sure you get a new filler neck gasket.
I'm no expert but the pistons and rods are weak links in these motors. I definitely wouldn't crank up the boost any more and probably be a good idea to run an intercooler even at 10psi.
I have the Kenny Brown Extreme Matrix kit on my car. Bought it before Stiffler's came out with their similar product. I've been happy with it and the jacking rail is a nice thing to have.
DO NOT use poison. It's pretty much guaranteed one will die somewhere where you don't want it to. Traps aren't foolproof either. I use traps in my garage and caught several but apparently one was the mother of the babies living in my car that were not old enough to take care of themselves. Four...
Sorry, I'm not familiar with that pump. When I had to replace the pump in my '98 I went with the SVT Focus pump from Ford. It was much cheaper than the pump listed for my car.
The filler neck gasket is exposed to fuel and the ethanol gas softens it. I was lucky enough to get mine off in one...
Sounds like your pump is bad. Mine ran fine at the end of the season and come spring time it was dead.
I ended up replacing it with a SVT Focus pump which was a lot cheaper. And if you do end up replacing the pump make sure you get a new seal for where the filler neck goes into the tank.
I'm still here and still have my 98. I only made it out to one show last season (the Ford dealer in Mt. Airy) and my tags expired in July. I never got them renewed with it raining every other day it seemed last season.
Hoping this season will be better. I supposed to be getting off night shift...
1998 was one of the best looking SVT wheels there was in my opinion. They tweaked the '95 R wheel just enough and it came out brilliant. That being said I don't know why nobody makes a faithful replica of this wheel.
I'd also like another set of floor mats like my originals with the small...
This was the closest I could find but don't know of availability. Perfection Wheel® - 17x8 5-Spoke Alloy Factory Wheel (Refinished)
And widening a wheel will definitely change the offset but if the additional width was added to the front side of the wheel it would not change backspacing.
If you're thinking about a road and track type set up and doing some track days or maybe even auto-x the driver mod is a great mod that is definitely worth the money.
Take some classes and get to know your car on the track.
I think the lack of cats will have more impact on sound vs. which material it is made from.
I've got a catted Bassani on my 98 (which is clamshell style) but only two cats instead of four and the sound is a bit more aggressive over stock but not much louder.
