  • I had a quick question in regards to an old post you made. You posted the following.

    "Thermostat:
    Stock is 185*
Majority change to a 170* and some to 160* to help with the heat. These are cheap and easy but must be adjusted for in the tune or you will get a CEL (check engine light). Some in really cold climates can have issues with the 160* also so keep this in mind when choosing."

I don't understand why the lower temp thermostat would set off a CEL? If the coolant started flowing at a lower temp, then how would the computer even know or even care for that matter.

I'm just trying to understand, as I'm about to make this mod. I'm going to get a tune, so it's more from an educational standpoint.

    Thanks!!
    Jeremy

Hey Bob, this Matt from Oklahoma City. Just recently bought an 01 Lightning with 47500k on it. I see you are an aircraft mechanic. Do u work on military base? I work at Tinker AFB as a machinery maintenance mechanic. Hoping u could direct me to a trustworthy performance mods facility in my area. I wanna do it right. For instance, if I change to bigger pulleys then what else should I do to the engine or if I go to better plugs and wires is there any other changes that need to be made for the health of the engine. These are the type of answers i'm looking for and if there is a trustworthy provider of mods in OKC area, then I would like to know. Thanks for making yourself available!
