I replaced the fuel pump with a stock pump as that what was in it. I did this because the car was having issues keeping the motor at a speed going down the road at highway speeds. When I reduced speed, it seemed to be OK, but when I increased the speed, it was having issues. So far that issue has not returned. However, it seems, usually, in the mornings or after being parked for some time the motor cranks over a LOT before it finally starts and then seems normal until it is parked for a while. No problem spinning the motor until it starts. I'm thinking it could be losing pressure after sitting, if that could be an issue? It seems the fuel pump should force pressure when I turn the key on.

I had a similar issue. I replaced the fuel pump assembly and the issue went away. I believe there is some sort of check valve in there to hold pressure while the car is off

Is that check valve part of the pump motor or the rest of the pump? I replaced the complete unit not and not just the pump motor.

Do you hear the pump prime when you turn the key? I always wait till the prime stops and then turn the key the last bit to engage the starter.

Should I hear the pump. It is a new pump (doesn't mean much) and full of fuel.

These pumps are pretty quiet. So you might not hear it. You might have to have someone listen by the tank.

There's a check valve in the module that keeps the pressure up after you shut off the car. It's the PPRV. Next time you go to start it turn the key on a couple times before cranking it. That'll give it a chance to build pressure. If it fires up then the PPRV is probably bad. Not the end of the world as deleting them is common anyway. Just learn to give it a second to build pressure before cranking the engine over.
