What motivated you to get a 13/14?

Wanted an 03-04 Cobra, but at the time, they were in the 30k range for a decent low mileage example. For a few thousand more, you could get a low mileage 11-12 GT500. For another 5k, you get the 5.8 and all of the other benefits designed into the 13-14. Bang for the buck for me.

I have been around cars my whole life. My dad was really in to them and my uncles. My dad owns a custom paint/fabrication shop so i was constantly around really cool stuff. Pretty much anything you can think of. I have been extremely blessed to be apart/around that. Its actually strange to think what i thought was common but in reality it was not. Blows my mind actually to think of all the cool things/people i was exposed to in racing and all the big high performance names when i was younger. One thing that was a constant, was mustangs. When i was 13, i learned to drive a manual on a our property with a 88 GT that my dad got in a trade. I loved that car and was going to be mine at 16 but it blew a head gasket and a friend ended up buying it.

When i was 15, i ended up buying a low mile (9k) 5 speed 1996 Mustang GT that had a blown motor. It was blue with gray cloth interior. Bought it for 5k from an auto auction. I pretty much spent every dollar i had to get it and figured i could save up to repair it or buy a new motor. About a month later i came to the shop with my mom and saw a crate by the car, my dad went ahead and bought a 20k mile 2000 mustang gt motor! I was absolutely pumped. I learned quite a bit swapping that in with my dad and uncle. After we got it running we added a catback and cai. To everyone’s surprise, the car also had 3:73’s. The car was a blast to drive and I definitely had my fun. Way to much if it. This was back in 1999-2000.

Exactly like this. Only pics i have our actual photos from 1999 lmao.

Image1652488617.562326.jpg

Unfortunately in late 2002 i had someone run a stop sign and broadsided me. The car was done at that point. The insurance payout was 14k. I was extremely happy with that.

About a year went by and a friend of mine who worked at a ford dealer said the owner had a 01 Cobra that got hit in the parking lot. It smashed the rear of the car pretty good. The owner ended up buying the car back to fix but decided he rather get the new 2003 cobra for obvious reasons. Anyway i ended up buying the car for 8500 as it sat. It had 13k miles and was bone stock. Ended it putting 10k in parts and repair. Long story short it took 6 years to get the car the way i wanted. Full Roush kit, painted house of kolor stripes full side exhaust, Roush wheels, big brakes, sorted suspension, vortech blower, gears, all the supporting mods etc. car made 447 rwhp and 410tq. It was a blast to say the least. I hung with many cars I probably shouldn’t off and beat many cars I should not of on paper. To this day i have never owned a car that got more thumbs up and positive attention then my 01. I get its not everyone style, but at the end of the day it looked amazing. At least in person. The sentimental value of that car was extremely high, i never planned on selling it and eventually do a full build on it.

However I really wanted a 03-04 cobra.

In 2011 i ended up buying a 04 cobra convertible from a small dealer lot in ohio. Black on black with black inserts. Bone stock. All i added was a bassani cb and k&n cai. I absolutely loved that car. I ended up selling it to my dad for a few years and then bought it back in 2018.

Edit: give up trying to attach photos.

In between that i owned a few fbody’s and foxbody’s. Not gonna lie, they were piles. Always had the idea i was going to build/restore them, never happened lol.

Which leads me to 2020. My wife (gf) at the time lived in Colorado and I decided to move there. It been the best decision i ever made. However there was some moving pains involved. I decided to sell my 04 and my 01. To this day, i regret it. Especially the 01 because of the sentimental value. I did this because it just made things easier if we wanted a bigger house and frankly i got extremely good offers on both.

Now that brings me to the 14 GT500. There are few cars that i see initially that i fall in love with. As in every aspect. The 13-14 GT500 was one of very few. My plan was to always own my 01 and 04 and then eventually get a 13-14. With the funds for these, I basically had plenty to buy a 13-14. The week before i moved my wife ran across a 14 black on matte black 2 owner, exactly 20k mile stock (Corsa and FR intake resonator delete) all options but glass roof in Colorado. The price was extremely low considering this was in the heart or covid. Me being, conservative, i wanted to wait until spring as i was selling my house and changing jobs. My wife is absolutely amazing and essentially forced me to look at the car. I fell in love, gave the guy a deposit and picked it up that weekend. I love everything about the car, to me, the 13-14 is the best of an era. I have driven many high performance cars in my day, from all makes and models, from 400 to my pops 1100 rwhp tt cobra. To me, the 13-14 just does it for me. Can’t explain it. I got to drive a 2020 cftp gt500 in the spring back in MI. Car is amazing. But it just doesn’t give me the thrill of the 13-14. Maybe its the look, or the lack of the third pedal, but i wouldn’t trade my 14. The only other car i must have is a 03-04 again (coupe) and that’s mostly because of nostalgia. Followed by a C6 or maybe C7 Z. When I’m 40.

Image1652488807.645126.jpg

PS: my wife is definitely a car girl, long story short she has always loved camaros. Had a few before. About 6 months before i bought my gt500, she bought a 14 ZL1 vert. All options, 1 owner, bone stock and 18k miles. She loves the car but a 6th gen Z is probably in her future.

Yes its cool for a few lucky one's! But its even better in the rental and leasing department, that's what I prefer. A new outlook from time to time ensures a good flow of life and car balance......:p

Awesome story, and love the photos man. I’m happy to hear you both got what you wanted. It’s amazing when you and your other half can share a similar hobby, and enjoy the cruises together. I’m looking forward to the day me and my lady friend can cruise both of my cobras side by side. She likes driving my 13 Shelby. She enjoys my 03’ black cobra too. She doesn’t know this, but I bought that for her. Got a big box of parts laying next to my 03’ white coupe she doesn’t know about yet. Just picked up a 16’ hellcat charger for her. Cheers to you both! Keep on living my friend!

Yes, she knows about the charger. We kept looking back and forth on them. She made the final okay on it. Didn’t want her to get something she didn’t want. She’s excited as can be. Her birthday is coming in July. I’ve got most of her parts already. She’s gonna have the 2.7 pulley, JLT intake, idlers, I’ve got her Springs, drilled slotted rotors, throttle body, etc. she thinks it was all for me. However I never really told her that my white cobra is already FBO, ported blower etc. The plan is to have her drive the cobra back to my house and I’ll have a bow on all of the go fast parts.

When I was younger I had gone to the New York Auto Show at the Javits center and knew Ford was going to show the new Shelby GT500 so I had to go. Drove my 03 Cobra ( original owner I was :) ) there with my friend that owned a supra at the time. I wanted to buy it but was out of my reach with money unfortunately. Then the 13/14 I read about being 662 HP and wanted to get one so bad but again funds just weren't there. Was getting married in 13, bought a house in 12 so it just wasn't going to happen and had to wait and hope. I was planning on buying it for retirement at 48 as a gift to myself.
Speed time up, 2020 came around and covid with it. Made me think about life and will I get to retirement lol. So some funds came up that I can tap into ( which I did ) and discussed it with my wife if she is ok with my buying my dream car. She said yes ( which she really didn't want me to do because she's always throwing it in my face now?) I was looking all over the Country to find the right one and went back to my roots ( here at svtperformance ) and put in the "WTB" part that I was looking for one. Mike had reached out to me on here and said he was listing his car for sale to see if I was interested in it. It had the main things I wanted such as the rims and seats but the color was red ( which I never liked ) so turned him down.
After a few days of looking at the car over and over again via pictures I reached back out to him to set a date to come out. It was 6 to 8 hours away for a drive so I had to have someone come out with me to drive in case I bought the car. If my cousin decided he wasn't going to come then this never would have happened. So we get out there, drive the car and fell in love with it. There was a lot of trust on both parties of other things too which we both agreed to and everything worked out. Dreams do come true, sometimes you just have to be patient, and wait for the right time. I sold my 03 cobra, but I will not sell this car as I always loved the old Shelby GT500s (1968 in particular)

In late 2011 I was 26, about a year and a half married, a year into a new job making good money with a $400 mortgage, with a newly pregnant wife when the itch for an upgrade to my ‘99GT hit me.

I was torn hard between a low mileage 03/04 Cobra or a new 5.0. My wife and I were hanging out at the in-laws house one day, I was flipping through a 2012 Mustang brochure when I jokingly said I really want a Shelby over a GT. Dead shit serious my wife said then just do it if it’s what you want. (My budget immediately went from ~30k to upper 40s)

I didn’t want to buy one off the lot (and wanted a few months to save up a big down payment) so I decided to wait until the following summer to buy. As it turns out, Ford announced the changes from ‘12 to ‘13. Excited is an understatement. Talked to a handful of dealers, most sort of blew me off for being relatively young or generally not interested in paying the $2,000 SVT fee. Bob Thomas in Fort Wayne said okay, you’re fourth on our list.

Fast forward to March of ‘12 I got a call from the salesman while I was in Atlanta for work asking if I was still interested in the allocation as the first three dudes were just blowing smoke. Again, very excited. Once they said no ADM, I made my deposit and got the order placed as soon as I got home.

First born son made his arrival May 4th, and the car showed up May 18th of 2012. Got a call that Friday before noon and spent the rest of the work day providing absolutely no value to my employer.

I have always like mustangs from childhood and highschool in the 90's. After doing work and saving up I first bought a 05' Roush stage 1 and then changed every piece of the car with adding superchargers, supension, etc., etc., etc.. Well then cam the time to sell the car. After months of waiting for the right person that could "pay" over the normal financing price of the mustang GT (banks will only recognize shelby's as upgrades to base mustangs). I decided my next mustang will be a Shelby just in case I need to sell it in the future.
Well before COVD hit I bought a Black with Red stripes 2014 GT500 in Little Rock Arkansas and loved the car (kept it fully stock). Then COVID hit and the same dealer called me back wanting to buy the car. Long story short sold it :(. Well after the immediate seller's remorse I was on the hunt again. But this time I wanted something that had a few miles on it (because mods are the joy of it right)?
Found an oxford white with sonic blue striped car in SC and off the dealership I went.
Been smiling ever since and have modded the snot outta this thing.

Sorry as I may be hijacking a bit, but what are your guys thoughts on the market right now. Looking to get one, but I haven't really followed what values have done the past couple years. Seems like they have come down a bit or at least leveled off a bit. Was kind of set on a lower end restomod, but after most of the fam gave thumbs down on the stuff I showed them, I kind of gave up. My son just happened to see an '11 GT500 on the screen and everyone loved it. LOL. Convinced my wife is should be a '13-14 for investment purposes... lol.

Anyways, looking at a 22K, 1 owner that has never seen the rain for very low 50's. Seems like a pretty good deal to me pending a financial apocalypse.

I’d offer high 40’s and call it good. I don’t think you could go wrong. I purchased my 2013 around 2020 with 48k miles for $42k. I’m sure I overpaid, but this was the exact car me and my pops found together before his passing. I didn’t care what they wanted for it.

You cant put a price on happiness and or smile. Nothing makes my heart beat full of life like my SS does! That just what our 13-14 Shelby's do!! Doesn't matter what anyone else says or thinks!!
