Finally got around to replacing my MAC catback last week with a semi custom setup since the Borla cat back kits have now almost doubled in price to over $1000... Purchased a set of Pypes SS flow tubes, Borla Pro XS mufflers and LMR SS tailpipe kit. Overall install was a straight bolt in but having issues with the LMR passenger side rear tailpipe fitment. Car is lowered on HR super sports the upper control arm is hitting the over axle bend and I've got some rubbing on the rear tire (I have 10.5" rims with 295s). With a stock suspension and wheel I don't think would have any issues but with modified may have to cut and weld the pipe in order to fit better. Ordered a set up BMR tublar upper arms to help with the clearance issue. The LMR tailpipes I was quite impressed overall in looks and fitment with hangers being in the correct location, and yes I did have to install 96/97 tailpipe hangers as I have a 98. Sound wise I like the Borla sound much better then the MAC with a catless Bassani X. I'll post some before and after vids in the exhaust clip section.

Looks nice and I’ve always liked the Bassani o/r x and Borla sound for these cars.

Have always been confused with Borla mufflers though. What’s the difference between the Pro XS and the traditional muffler used on SN95 Mustang Borla catbacks shown below?

I ended up getting the 14445 ‘94-5 catback for my ‘98 to replace the XR1 catback I’ve had on it since 2003. It has the same style muffler I’ve seen on non-XR1 cat backs since the ‘90s and like what was OE for ‘95-8 Saleens.

Haven’t installed it yet, going to replicate Saleen “machine gun” tips for it.

So you got it all figured out?
Sounds great.

I have LMR tailpipes as well, but I used their Foxbody tails. I like the way the follow the rear bumper angle better.
I'm on H&R SS rear springs too. My tails cleared everything (I've had both 10" & 11" wheels out back, MM PHB, MM LCAs etc).
I must've been super lucky.

Sorta have it all figured out, spent another 3 hours on the passenger side pipe on Tuesday. With the suspension loaded and only the tailpipe hanging it hit the UCA and gas tank. I figured some tubular UCA would help, so put in BMR set and still kinda hit the axle mount side bracket a bit but still a no go. Installed the pypes flo tubes and muffler back in, and rotated the flo tubes several times to find a happy medium to get clearance and resorted to a speed dent on the tube where it rubbed the tire. In the process of said speed dent process the exhaust magically moved it self to where it doesn't rub anything now, and have a about 1/2" to the UCA, gas tank, and the tire (1/4" of that was a speed dent). The tailpipe doesn't exactly hang vertical as the rear mount is now almost horizontal and the front mount rubber is twisted but it works. The driver side muffler fits perfect and horizontal in the space where as the passenger side is at odd angle in both directions, gonna see if a straight section vs the pypes flo tube will help, as the bent section of the flo tube hangs lower then the MM SFC. Did reach out to LMR to share that I had issues one side vs the other and waiting a response after I sent pictures. LMR lists the stainless tailpipe section for 86-97 now.

I just purchased MM PHB yesterday so I'm hoping it fits....planning for a open test and tune at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course in June.

One of the reasons I went with the LMR tails was because MM lists them on their site as a good fit around their PHB.

Under "Features" on their PHB page...

  • Clears stock tailpipes. Aftermarket 2.5" tailpipes that follow the factory routing will usually clear the MM Panhard Bar without modifications to the tailpipes. These brands usually fit well: Dynomax, Flowmaster made after 2000, Late Model Restoration.
