So I've notice that women are all about the "beach vacation" - whatever the location, they just dream and wax poetically about going to the beach and relaxing by doing nothing.

Personally, I absolutely detest these types of vacations. The fly down to Cancun, Dominican, Florida, etc - pay big bucks to stay at a "Resort" and just basically lay around and eat for a week. (Cruises fall into this as well)

Vacations for me have always focus on an event or action like Mustang Week, Ultrafest, Burning Man, TX2K. If not that, then going and exploring an area - went to New Orleans years ago on a 4 day whim, stayed at a vintage hotel and checked out all the various historical sights, museums, paddle boat ride and what not.

Another note, what do you feel is better a 1 week or 2 week deal? In the case of my wife, she wants 2 weeks - because that's the only way you can really relax - for me, 2 weeks is a nightmare - I'm just going to be working remote (inefficiently) or coming back to an unreal backlog of issues.

Unless you’re going far far away or spending multiple days driving 1 week is good. I’m good with a lazy day or two in there but I’d like to be out doing something

I'm from Florida, retired in Charleston, SC and having been Navy I was ALWAYS stationed at the BEACH. To me...a vacation is inland AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

Wife and I love parking our asses on a beach in Mexico at an all inclusive. We have found the 4-5 day window is perfect for that. Quick flight. Check out for a few days and gorge on alcohol and food, then back to the grind. We try to go at least 1x/year

Ironic. We are just starting this debate for spring vacation. Same boat...

I have a dislike for most humans. So any of the touristy crap is off the table.

And, yeah, one week. Quasi-working the entire week.

5,195 days until retirement...

I don’t mind them really. Wife and I are going to cabo in March. When i was single, most of my vacations revolved around cars/hunting/fishing. Wife does like car related trips though. Its a good match.

I'm in the same boat as you, and I agree with you.

You are right about the women aspect (excluding my wife) as well. The family, whenever they plan a vacation there are 2 requirements, beach, and pool. Neither of which I enjoy.

My wife told me she is reluctant to go on another one, because we generally like to show up somewhere, take in all the history we can, hit a pub and call it a night. England works really well for this, but as you can imagine in this current climate, it's not happening.

Also, 2 weeks would absolutely kill me. I can barely do 1 week. On our honeymoon we were gone for 10 days, it wasn't terrible because we had like 50 people there (wedding in mexico and combined the honeymoon), so I was always busy.

Laying on the beach is so ****ing boring lol.

Women have ruined every vacation I've ever been on with them. I no longer travel with them. Of course, there's a flip side to that coin. They will say I ruined every vacation they went on with me.
Reasons:
1. I pack only what I can carry on the plane. I'm not carrying all your crap.
2. I'm flying first class. You can't afford it then sit in coach.
3. I'm not bringing dress up clothes because I'm not going anywhere one has to be dressed up for.
4. I don't eat breakfast or lunch. You're on your own for thos meals.
5. I go to bed at 9 and get up at 4.
6. I'm not hanging around the beach, pool or room all day. I'm doing activities and seeing the sights.

Lazy beach vacations are good in my book. Hawaii is probably my favorite destination for that, specifically Kauai. Kauai is 'The Garden Isle" and is were most tropical movie scenes are shot (Jurassic Park [they used footage of the storm in the OG film], Tropic Thunder, Hook, F&F Hobbs and Shaw, to name a few). One of my favorite things to do there is the boat rides along the Na Pali coast. It is stunningly beautiful and there are some excellent hiking trails out there too. In the 90s hurricane Iniki unleashed on Kauai, it picked up farm animals and deposited them all over the island so now they have a wild boar issue and wild chickens running around. The Big Island is number 2 for me, I love Volcano national park and exploring the lava tubes was unforgettable.

Other than that lakes and mountains always recharge my batteries, I have a deep love for the Eastern Sierra mountains, my dad and I used to camp and backpack there when I was a kid. I definitely hiked some trails and sat on some boulders that John Muir had been on. Horseshoe Meadows was our favorite spot to enter The Golden Trout Wilderness, and is popular for equestrian adventures too.

Last time I had fun on a vacation, I towed my race car for 2 days to SCSN Vegas, was at the track Thursday-Sunday racing and then towed 2 days back home. That was a Hoot!.
The whole time I was in Vegas, I never stepped foot into a Casino. It was up early, eat, got to the track, race all day, go out to eat dinner and then crash in the Hotel. Wash/Rinse/Repeat. Enjoyed every second of it.
