Well had our first hit and run experience last night. I’ll try to keep this short… my wife was driving with my 4 y/o son and was side swiped by a Chevy pickup headed the opposite direction. Trashed the whole drivers side of the pilot we just bought.
It was right in front of my parents house which is where I was at. After making sure my wife and boy were ok, me and dad hopped in the truck and went looking. We had info on what the truck looked like from a witness that saw the accident and stopped to check on my wife. This is a small town not very many people around.
After driving around for a few minutes we passed a car that was stopped on the side of the road looking out of place. I looked at the driveways near by and found a truck matching the description with damage on the driver side. We pulled in the driveway and called the police.
The car parked on the side of the road pulled up behind us and asked if we were looking for that truck, turns out it was an older gentlemen who had been following that truck for 10 miles on the phone with police due to erratic driving and had witnessed everything including the accident.
911 on the phone asked us to leave and they would be there soon. No chance I was letting that truck out of my sight until they showed up. While we waited for troopers to show up the car that had stopped to check on my wife showed up as well, they had been riding around looking for the truck.
Troopers show up and get everyone’s statements, the guy claims he’s diabetic and didn’t know he had hit anyone. We never spoke to him he stayed inside his house and we left before the police were finished with him.
On the plus side everyone is ok and it’s a company truck so insurance should be good. Sorry for the rant just still pissed off about the whole ordeal. And accident is one thing running from it makes you a piece of shit. Also, thank god there are still good people on this world, I owe all of those witnesses a cold beer or 2.
