So is it basically not possible to buy a new O/R X/H Pipe anymore? (with a few exceptions)

I noticed this trend a couple years ago. It was very hard to find a retailer selling an O/R H/X pipe for any year Mustang 79-93, 94-98, 99-04, 05-09, 10-14, and 15+. I basically just looked through all the usual aftermarket Mustang sites, i.e., AM, LMR, Lethal, CJ-Pony-Parts, JPC, and many more sites.

When I had my 99 GT in 06', O/R mid-pipes were easy to find and just about every aftermarket performance company made one and I had a shorty MAC O/R H-pipe since I had LTs. Fast forward to 2012 and I had a 5.0, technically not until about 6 years later since I bought it off my father. I didn't really do anything to it since it already had a JLT CAI, SCT X3, Roush AB, and the other parts were gifts I bought for my father when he had it, like a Barton short throw shifter, Redline tuning struts, JPC over-axle pipes, and a tune for it I believe. Once I acquired it, I didn't really do anything to it and never looked into doing headers and a mid-pipe. I had to leave it in my parent's garage a year later since I bought a brand new WRX in 2013 to take to school with me since I needed a car that was good in the snow since Ohio winters can be harsh and something I could also have fun with year round. I quickly started modding it once the car hit 8k miles, but made sure not to go nuts so I couldn't keep it a true DD. Long story short, I bought a performance Perrin catted downpipe since I wanted something that flowed better and I wanted the cat to hold back pressure to hold boost since the car is turbocharged.

Anyways my Fox I recently bought in the past year has a BBK O/R H-pipe and that got me thinking about O/R H/X pipes again and when I started looking, I couldn't find one for sale. Every mid-pipe was catted and of course about $500+ compared to O/R mid-pipes that were under $150 the last time I was in the market for one.

The only O/R X-pipe I could find was a JBA shorty one for LTS for 11-14 GT500s. I'm sure if I look hard enough on other sites, I might be able to find one.

Sorry for the long rambling on. Is there a reason all the major aftermarket performance part sites only sell catted H/X pipes for pretty much all 79-21 Mustangs? My car has historic tags, doesn't have to go through inspection, and most importantly, doesn't ever need to pass emissions in my state.

Is there some new EPA law or something that is causing this to happen. I'm honestly just curious. I just don't want to pay $350-$400 more than what an O/R H/X pipe costs on my next Mustang.

The land of commies and socialists!
Epa has really cracked. Call bassani they still make em. I bought mine from them last year. Summit and jegs do have them from time to time as well

This right here! The EPA has been hammering businesses that make catless h and x pipes.

Your best bet is actually eBay from what I have seen. I am in the hunt for a BBK catted H or Basani catted X but currently can't find anyone that will ship it to me.

Probably just going to have to run my stock h pipe for a while but I am worried about the cats going bad. A 50 state legal H pipe is $2500 right now and I can only imagine how expensive a new one will be in a few years.

Oh wow, that's really obnoxious of them. Crack down on the performance car community which has got to be under 2% of all the pollution and even before the crackdown on O/R midpipes, many still ran catted versions.

Yet, the EPA does nothing to the Semi-trucks, school buses, dump-trucks, and vehicles of the sort. I know why they do nothing. The real polluters have massive lobbyists throwing all kinds of money at them, shady under the table deals, and so on. To show they're making the world a better place and going "green," they crackdown on the blue collar guy who is a car enthusiast and barely putting out enough pollutants from their exhaust pipes to make a difference, since they probably keep the car in the garage and only take it out on nice days. Real progress we got here lol.

EDIT: To make it clear, I was just asking why the the catless mid-pipes were non-existent now. I don't need one, I already have an O/R H-pipe on my car.

That's where you're wrong. They're extremely stringent on them, and getting stricter and stricter every year. They've already brought things like particulate and NOx down so far that it's nearly zero, that they're now limiting CO2 emissions- which is effectively driving fuel economy. They're pushing for electric hard, giving out all kinds of incentives and grants for it.

Ebay is also a great option. These Chinese companies still sell em.

I still have a brand new Kooks X pipe for 07-09 GT500s if anyone wants it. Posted it a long time ago and have just sort of forgotten about it. Pretty sure it is offroad but I would have to verify whether I got O/R or high flow cat.

As someone who tests CO and Nox ( and others ) every day on engines…

It’s absolutely absurd how clean the EPA wants engines to be.

There are companies just paying fines at this point ….

Live in an inspection state, ( N.J. ), would up with Kooks " green " X pipes on my 11 & 14.
For those wanting / needing an off road pipe, is the the fear of it hurting hp, or the need for the smell ??
My 11 made 776w, & my 14 made 780w ( de-tuned ), with the " green " pipes.
................( both stock bottom ends, 93 tune )

At this point it might be easier to just have catted mid pipes gutted and welded

It's one less needless thing to fail when racing.

That's interesting about the electricity. Currently there are 930 or so Tesla charging stations, about 31,000 gas stations. To rival the gas stations, Tesla would have to spend 7.9 or just about 8B dollars in infrastructure. There are gaps in certain areas of country where you can't go charge to charge. I can go to a gas station, take less than 5 min. and fill my tank.

EDIT: I went to the Tesla website and was blown away by their prices. Their cheapest car, the Model 3 only comes in white and silver without having to pay extra. The other colors were $1500, and I believe red was $2500. Ruby Red on a Mustang is like $495, there must be eco-flakes in that paint to justify $2500 for that red color. A $4600 tax credit, that seemed more like an end of the year sale for last year's model at any random dealership across the US. A whooping $10k charge for the auto-pilot feature. Not to mention, if you want the vehicle and order it, it's not available until October 22nd, 2022. Yikes! I had to wait 3 1/2 months for my WRX, but it was being built in Japan and they gave me a number to type in and check the progress of the vehicle. The Teslas are built in CA and TX if i'm not mistaken, not sure why it takes 13/14 months to acquire a vehicle that's built in the USA.

It’s so easy to find a way around stupid epa regulations. Just call it a mock up exhaust, scrap pipe or have an option that says “No, thanks, I will reuse my 50 state legal catalytic converters”
