Not sure where to look with so many different forums. But, at age 73, I have purchased a 1998 Mustang Cobra SVT to play with. I purchased from Ebay, it had sat for 12 years and do believe that from when the car was delivered not knowing if I should use a shovel or rake to clean it out. I am not a mechanic, always have had the stiffest white collar jobs, although in my early teens picked up some things working at a gas station.

To make a long story shorter and after a $1000 in parts and almost $3000 in labor I am getting closer to the end. I am missing two speaker covers one on each side of back seat, in the side panel. Any ideas on how to cover to make it look good? Some kind of speaker cover I am not thinking of. Also, I have replaced the suspension, thanks to one of the members of this outlet of forums. I have also replaced the breaks and calipers. Shocks and coils. It had a diagnostic, new plugs and I have installed two coil packs and performance wires, but still lacks power and stutters a bit going up into higher speeds. If everything else has been done, but had not changed the gasoline filter, could this be the culprit, maybe starving on gas? Any idea would be welcomed very much.

I am motivated as I am getting a lot of attention and comments, how much would you sell for, so the work I have done is paying off. Thank you for any suggestions, oh it seems everyone asked me this question, the rims are of 2010 Cobra model They are new and staggered with Michelin Pilot all weather.

‘’Sorry for long dialog, but i am becoming proud of the car, I purchased it to be wife’s car, as she does not like the 500SL and have had Mustangs her entire life…….

Quickly becoming a prized mechanic,

Might find speaker covers on www.crutchfield.com or get oem off of ebay by messaging a mustang used parts vendor or hit the local junkyard pic and pull.

You could replace the whole stereo system with a system from crutchfield as well .

You can buy a bafx bluetooth obd2 connector and load the Torque Pro app on your phone to read codes. That is the first and cheapest route to reading engine codes.

Also a obd2 wireless connector from foreseal works ok with the Torque app.

An sct reader is the best, but expensive and outside my scope. Others can help and advise you with that route.

Agreed with shurur. The obd scanner and torque pro is the best.

I have this exact one and it works perfectly.

Ebay or the junkyard is a great spot for finding speaker grills

You def need to look at your fuel tank and associated items, im sure after sitting for so long there is alot of rust built up over the years...

Pics coming. My new problem after having clutch, bearing, fly wheel done, it goes into 1-5 great, but sounds like I am grinding major meat trying to go into reverse.

Any ideas, the shop said I need a new peddle assembly, as they feel some slack in clutch peddle. He says replacing the whole peddle assembly will take care of grinding. I am no mechanic, but some how feel the reverse synchronizer would need replacement, if it has one. So, went with recommendation, purchased $300 peddle assembly.

I am sure learning allot with this car, but it is coming along. Taking pics tomorrow for American Muscle, as they want pics of what I have done with their parts I have purchased.

‘’Thanks for the reply…

If you want to avoid the grind when going for reverse, push in the clutch and put it in 4th then reverse (clutch in the whole time).

If you're down on power in the upper RPMs suspect the IMRC (intake manifold runner control). They can be cleaned if the actuator still works or can be removed and get a tune. There is arguments for both.

If you replace your fuel filter (which is a good idea) make sure you order the o-ring for the filler neck at the same time. Trying to reuse the old one will result in a leak.

Thank you for the reply. It seems everyone agrees, that you need to put in another gear like 5th, then slide into reverse, then there is no more grinding. It must be a quirk with this model.

‘’But, thanks for the response…..

If you start wondering why the idle is off, or it cuts out at higher RPMs, take a look at those MSD coils before anything. They dont have a great track record. My builder wanted to use them, and I told him hell no.
OEM coil packs are what works best in these cars.

Very nice, Bob. I like the wheels.
Thank you, pics do not do them justice. Now that I know where to post pics, will do more. But now, My Mercedes SL500 (2006) appears to have the ABS Actuator has decided to go out. hmmmmm, means maybe $4,000. I wish they would go back and make cars simple, every time something breaks down, it’s $2,000 here $4,000 there. This time will have it repaired, then sell it……..

Thanks again for nice compliment………
