Okay let me start by saying this was a HORRIBLE accident and a woman and her dog burned to death because this knucklehead had way too much to drink at Top Golf in Vegas and then drove his C8 through the streets at 158MPH! They said the airbags deployed at 127MPH so at least he started to brake. He's a dumbass and has completely ruined his career and life and I have little sympathy.

With that all said... what a remarkable testament to the structural rigidity of the new C8 chassis. Even without any engine up front the interior cabin was not penetrated in this collision. What is even more impressive is this video taken directly after the crash. Ruggs and his lady friend are sitting behind the C8 on the road crying... but listen to the background audio!!!!!! Hear that? That GM LT2 is still running and idling just a smoothly as it did when he drove it off the showroom floor. That's GM quality right there I tell ya! :ROFLMAO:

Saw a PW joke regarding this, not gonna lie, I laughed but still sad...

With that said, its extremely sad what happened to the girl. She was still alive and conscious after the crash. People tried to get her out and was screaming during the fire, just sad overall.

Crazy how more often than not, drunk drivers are somehow still alive during accidents like these vs the person they crashed into.

Also, considering its a very busy street, very surprised he was able to hit 100mph+ to begin with.

Horrible tragedy. Yep, his career is done, his live is done, and he will forever have to live with the memories of that fateful night and sitting there watching the flames engulfing the car he slammed into. 158mph on city streets? Wow! He deserves the maximum punishment and then some. And yet there are many who believe they can drive/control a vehicle after drinking to the point of impairment. What a sad and senseless tragedy.

I didn't know that. I was hoping she had been instantly killed on impact. Knowing she was conscious breaks my heart. I feel horrible for her family and friends, know this. Wow!

Its really not. When intoxicated the body is loose and moves easily in a crash. A sober person natural body reaction is to tense up. Which makes things much worse.

Who knows what the impact speed actually was since he jumped on the brakes at 128mph, plus her vehicle was traveling in the same direction at 30-40mph??? That would further reduce the impact speed.. if he’d actually hit her at 150+ it would have had the debris field of a plane crash and I doubt the C8 would have held up so well. Obviously it was still a tremendous impact and with the C8 being so low, it had no problem rupturing the fuel tank ….

EDIT: Not surprised it held up so well. The vette has always improved its body on frame design every generation. Though I am sure we are going to get plenty of chances to see how the C8 holds up in gruesome crashes, plenty of well to do morons will no doubt be wadding them up.

Hope they throw the book at him. I’m in no way shape or form saying that he’s a horrible person because I don’t know what he’s like off the field but I know this was a horrible decision he made that will impact the other persons families for the rest of their lives.

Very very sad situation

Horrible, there is a time and a place for performance car "dicketry". City streets with people around while drinking is not one.

I saw someone try to play frogger last night and lose badly. Hit by a jeep one way and thrown into a Land Cruiser the other way. In that case feel bad for the drivers. Thought it was a dear when I passed till I saw the feet.

Incredibly sad... I was just first on the scene of a fatal crash involving a woman and her dog. She was dead on impact but we got the dog to safety. This case the dead woman was driving erratically at least. But she did sent 3 others to ICU, but non life threatening.

I don't drive like an asshole on the street anymore, it's just not worth the risk of killing someone else.

My old squad leader, his wife, and their two dogs died in a fiery crash on I5 and it was reported other drivers heard him screaming for help before his Silverado blew up and engulfed them. Luckily it was just them involved as they hit a pole and it was due to him being intoxicated with the autopsy blood alcohol test coming out over .2. What sucks is I tried to stop him from leaving the beach where we were all at but he and his wife were fighting and they just took off and left without anyone seeing. Seeing that video and remembering how he died is pretty gruesome to think about. It's not how I would want to go.

I used to immediately call people that did shit like this terrible people, but I guess I’ve aged a little.

Was his decision a horrible one? Yes. Probably wasn’t his first time either. And yea, I also agree he should do a lot of sitting.

I can’t sit here and say I’ve NEVER driven when I probably shouldn’t have. But I can say I’ve ever tested fate in those situations either.

Garbage situation for everyone all because someone with money to burn wanted to have fun instead of be responsible.
