My neighbor has a red RS5 Sportback. Looks pretty nice!

Having worked on just about every make of car ever made, seriously, I can say this unequivocally about German cars. They are great when they are under warranty. They suck balls when you buy a used one. The people who buy German cars and love them are also the same people that trade them in every 3 years for a new one, or they lease and rotate to a new lease in 2-3 years.
All you have to do is watch the value of the car. After 3 years they drop like a rock, mainly because of the very high maintenance/repair costs.

Well, THIS wasn't expected. I was pretty much focused on a 2-door coupe and I kept thinking about how I don't drive my G70 from November through March. So I'm thinking, "do I really want, really need, a vehicle that I can't/won't drive year round, and that doesn't have much utility as far as storage." And BAM, I found myself drawn to the new 2022 Genesis GV70, which I had looked at a month ago. The technology and bang for the buck is staggering. So tomorrow I will test drive one (a second time) and likely will sell my G70 to CarMax and get pretty much this one below. I love the paint color. It's called Melbourne Gray. So, we'll see, but this I think gives me a ton of year round utility, enjoyment, and tech. Hell, it even plays Nature Sounds through the 18-speaker sound system if my wife and I just want to relax to soothing sound. This would also be an awesome choice for our trips to Maine, and other longer mile jaunts. 375hp and 391tq to somewhat keep me satisfied, power wise.

Bob, I think that looks great and a better option than the Audi you were looking at. That Audi looked a bit plain to me. This car will also be a lot more practical.

Bob, what do you think of the Kia Telluride? Kia's cars have really improved in quality and design. They are a little light but that helps with fuel economy.

I think the Telluride model looks really nice.

Scratch that last post above. The GV70 is beautiful! Do it!

Yeah, I like the smoother lines of the GV70, especially the rear.

I am pretty settled on their Melbourne Gray paint, but.....it's a Matte finish. Anyone have a comment either way on Matte finish paint?

My local dealer actually has a Melbourne Gray but doesn't have the Heads Up Display or digital dash. I'll get to see and drive it today if it is still on their lot. If I like the Matte paint, I just have to decide if I want it sans a specific package that has HUD.

I try to avoid HUD, as I dont like seeing the reflection of the projection glass in the windshield. Have another X5 on order, was not able to avoid it, hope its better than what we have had in the past.

Thanks for that comment. I do have HUD on my G-70, which is not distracting for me at all, but it isn't really a must-have. The digital dash where you can configure the gauges isn't necessarily a must, either. If I like the Matte (gray) paint seen in the photo in post #25, I might go with the one at my local dealer. I would just forego the HUD and digital dash.

I'm really surprised by KIA and Hyundai these days. Both the Telluride and the GV70 are pretty nice looking. I think KIA still has a hundred thousand mile warrantee, hard to beat that.

Bob,

Not to sidetrack you, but what are your thoughts on the sound of the engine on your G-70? My neighbor got rid of his because he said it was too loud at startup and idling around. He is kind of quirky so just curious. Was thinking of looking at a GV for the wife is the reason.
The G70 has controls to muffle the sound..three volumn levels. I have a G70 and promptly fell down a flight of brick steps so getting in and out is an issue. My sales person and I are talking GV70..

I have my GV70 on the way from the factory. Should be here in about a week if all goes well, but the color is not the (matte) Melbourne Gray. The salesman pointed out that the matte paint has important care considerations. No automatic car washes (I wouldn't do that anyway) and you cannot use soap when you wash it. It actually comes with a special "care" kit. I am very careful with my vehicles, exterior wise, but I don't need the hassle of paint care restrictions. I also can't quite warm up to matte paint. Kind of boring to me. So, the GV70 that is coming is Himalayan Gray, the same color as my current G70. I love that particular color, and the ceramic coat (which I'll do) makes the metallic POP! I also found that my Genesis dealer is offering me $2,100 more than CarMax, but I'm driving over to my local CarMax after work today to have them re-quote after actually seeing the car. It is absolutely immaculate and the ceramic coating makes the paint POP. If their offer is less than my dealer's, I'll trade my G70 in.

This is not my GV70, but is identical.

Cool - congrats! Can ceramic coating be done to older cars like my Cobra? How much does it run? Are all paint surfaces coated or only the more exposed parts?

I know that cars can be re-coated when the ceramic wears down. It is my understanding that on an older car you would do a paint correction/clay bar treatment and once the paint is clean (free of contaminants) then you can apply the ceramic coating. The cost will depend on the quality of the product being used, and the amount of time required to prep the paint. Somebody like Scott, who does detailing in Naples, would be a better person to ask.

My buddy, who has his own detailing shop, normally charges around $1100 to ceramic coat a new car. He does a phenomenal job. He also uses a high-end ceramic product. On my G70, all of the exterior/exposed surfaces were ceramic coated, which would include the paint, wheels, and trim. I'll do the same thing on my GV70. It will really accentuate the metallic in the paint.

Cool. Does this coating help prevent rock chips? I know if the rock is big and fast enough no protection will help. But what about smaller, average little road debris? I try to stick to clean roads with all my cars but some small rocks still find their way to the car. I turn around if I end up on a road where they are doing patch and repair with asphalt. I hate getting that stuff on any of my cars.
