Is our differential identical to a comparable year Mustang GT?

I'm thinking of replacing the current 3.73's with the stock 3.31 gears (which I do not have) and if the GT has the same differential, it would be feasible to pick one up from a parts car and swap the whole thing instead of buying the gears and having them installed. Finding one out of another GT500 is essentially impossible but if the GT version is the same, that opens up the field tremendously to go hunting.

I believe the 8.8 rear end is universal to all s197 years 1986-2014, but IS NOT THE SAME for 13-14 Gt500. So gears from a 86-14 GT should fit your 07-09 GT500
Thanks. For the labor cost to install gears, it would be significantly less to swap the entire rear axle assembly. I need the original 3.31 gearing, so this would be a simple, bolt-on swap. This is what I'm considering, and keeping my original. I keep all original parts so if and when I sell my car, I have the option to return it to original or sell everything with it, which would be a great selling point.

The rearends from 07-14 are basically the same. Direct bolt in swap. The difference is the GT500 uses strong bearings. And even heavier duty bearings in the 13-14GT500.

Perfect. I read years ago that there is a slight difference but did not know exactly what. Thanks again.

I think the Bullitt Mustangs also got the high load - high torque bearings, and that is pinion bearings only, right? All other bearings Carrier and Axle are the same?
