Right. It was "look at how cool EcoBoost is". Never a fit for a supercar in my opinion. Off the showroom floor performance is good, but it lacks the same potential as a larger displacement engine. Case in point is the standing mile record holding Ford GT. Not a V6.
Yes but anything to do with straight line power, especially adding to what it already made was never a glimmer of thought in the design of the car and no, they did not care what people thought about that. The car was built for racing and that's it. The road going GT was built because they had to.

It was a very different car and intention than what the 05/06 was. It was not built for the people, even though they ended up selling a lot more than initially planned.

I have a little more skin in this discussion than I've had in the past... I wouldn't push this article as false, just yet.
If that has any bearing of truth it in I'll assume its being pushed by the boys at Multimatic and likely nothing to do with Ford HQ. I don't know how you'd physically fit a V8 in that packaging unless it was the godzilla. Seems like pigs will fly first.

Hope i'm wrong lol

this. the ecoboost fit the bill for the current GTs goals as a race car and they had basically already done the R&D - there were ecoboost race engines in other chassis.

would I have loved to see the GT with a V8 and the rumble to go with it? of course. Does it make sense why they went the route they did, yes.

"This is the first Ford GT Heritage Edition that goes beyond celebrating race wins – this one goes deep, and honors the earliest of Ford supercar heritage," said Ford GT program manager Mike Severson

Holy shit! Mike Severson was a buddy of mine from high school. I knew he was in the GT program but last I talked to him he was handling deliveries to customers, but now he is the project manager! He had a Fox GT hatch when we were in school and I was a Ford guy also but for some reason we would always argue about random car facts and that's all our interactions ever really were lol.

I could shoot him a message on Facebook but we all know he won't say anything. He's not going to risk his position to confirm or deny some news.

Its pretty crazy, why would they have a mule for a car that's on its way out? Putting a v8 would be sick af, hope either 13Cobra gets one or Treynor!!!

I applied to buy one of the current gen models. Turns out I’m not popular enough to own one. **** off ford. I’d actually drive it like it was meant to before selling it 5 years later for a profit.

Small world! That is pretty cool. Regardless of what he would or wouldn't divulge, you should reconnect with him.

I think they should build the next one out of gold so they can charge a million billion dollars for it. And also you need to be royalty this time to even be considered to have one. Peasants don’t deserve a Ford anymore!

I understand all the “not a V8” feelings, but I don’t get the hate towards a smaller displacement engine that performs better.

Clearly the turbo GT worked.

Obviously not entirely apples to apples, but have to mention my feelings today after switching from a 2015 F150 3.5EB to a 2017 F150 5.0.

The 5.0 is a total turd in comparison. Can’t even hold 6th gear on the freeway going 80. Running 90 and it’s even dropping to 4th. I was very surprised what a dog it is in comparison to the 3.5 EB.

At the end of the day, performance is performance.

Maybe this will be another model like the Cobra R and Raptor R. The Ford GT-R. Which I’m totally for a TT Godzilla engine in a GT. That would be pretty awesome.

Pick your poison.

Happy I went with the 3.5 and tune. Mostly went that way cause I figured I'd get more out of it with just that and didn't want to start modding more than a tune. 5.0 has more potential but one money pit at a time. Gas mileage still sucks but faster than I need in a DD truck.

Water pump design is dumb AF but everything is design stupid now so w.e.

Reminds me of an Eaton cobra. Small power adders (not necessarily small engines) turned up make crazy down low torque which makes a nice torque curve. Works in the truck dunno if I'd feel the same in a FGT.

Power is power. FI pretty much always beats NA for broad power band.

For as good as the V6 TT is in the GT, just think how much better it would be if it had two more cylinders.
More Power
More Torque
Better Sound
Much More Respect

Eh, yeah. Still want the sound and experience but wonder how much faster it'd really be around the track not straight line. Curious to see @treynor Mr.Mk2 has to say. Not sure it's really power handicapped but way outside my experience just spit balling.

Definitely make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up but curious how much faster it'd really be or its better as a balanced platform. Still love to see it just for fun.
