Next up here is what I was telling you guys about. He is using my cutouts to build a side exhaust very similar to the original G.T. 350 cars. My side exhaust is just going to be straight pipe LOL. This is so badass!

He has not finished the exit tip yet. It's currently in mock up, but damn I think it looks great!

Dumped in front of the rear tire.
20210805_132748_resized.jpg

Look at how tight he got this exhaust to the body. Looking from the side you would think I only have side exhaust LOL. SWEET!

As mentioned this tip is still in mock up phase. It will not stay like this. I think it is going to be cut at an angle to be even with the body and not stick out so much and give it a bigger mouth look. I think this gives the car a meaner/race car look...:p

Outstanding! I believe a proper exhaust setup goes a long way to making a car great. And it looks like you are going to have a proper exhaust.

Lastly, while he was waiting for the V band clamps he got back on the front of the car.

He got my lower radiator tube built.
20210805_134857_resized.jpg

He extended my alternator all the way out to ensure there was no interference.
20210805_132852_resized.jpg

Then he just started mocking up the radiator cover when I arrived. He said once he has made more progress he would call me in to see if I like what he comes up with.

All I can says is "I'm loving it" so far :D

Nice! There's something sinister about discretely mounted turndowns.

Thank you kazman! I agree with you 100%. My fabricator has, by far, exceeded my expectations on this exhaust. Can't wait to get this back and finish it up. The day I get to fire this car up is going to be amazing for me.....

I like the side exit so much I would have just run that with those mufflers, they won’t quiet things down much. That’s top notch fab work

Thank you geoffmt! Yeah, I'm loving the side exit too. The reason I went with the dual exhaust set up was I had dumps on the car before. And you're right, those mufflers do little to quiet the car down. So, the car would drone and when I was at a light the exhaust would come into the car. My wife would never get in the thing because she said she would come out smelling like exhaust fumes LOL.

So, I went with the rear exit to help tone it down a bit and keep the exhaust fumes to a minimum. I was trying to figure out if I should run dumps off the cutouts, but asked my fabricator if he could come up with a side exit and he accommodated me. So, you can bet that when it's just me in the car the side exit will most likely be used the majority of the time LOL. Provided the cops are not harassing me about how loud it is LMAO!

That’s a great reason to run it out back, I didn’t think about fumes or smells. Your wife is hugely supportive of you and your build so it’s a great reason to run it out back. I have a side exit on my little 302 ranger, I get the fumes and gas smell, and my wife doesn’t much like to ride along. By the way, your fab guy did a WAY better job than Shelby did on their side exit exhaust, they didn’t tuck anything.

It's moving along nicely, but then it has been for a while. You have good reason to be thrilled with the way it's coming out. I like what he is doing for the radiator cover.

LOL, I was thinking about that last night. I think Shelby had the pipe down low and sticking out a decent amount. guess it was more about function and not so much form back then.

Thank you Grabber! He told me he wants to "roll" the radiator cover so it goes in between the radiator and engine. I was thinking about it last night and I'm not sure I want it rolled. There really are no round portion in my engine bay. My grill cover is flat. My side panels are flat with bead rolls in them. My fender mounting points are flat. My radiator support has a radius to it, but it is flat as well.

So, I'm going to go see him today and see if he can make the radius to fit my radiator support, but try to keep the bulk of it flat to match the rest of the engine bay.

I'll keep you guys posted........

Then on Sunday it was time to Raptor line the underside of the fenders to give them a completed look. During the last go-round the undersides were not address. Hell, the passenger side fender was just bare metal. Don't know how that happened LOL.

Okay, you know I had to wrap up that shinny new paint VERY well LOL
20210808_093858_resized.jpg

20210808_093919_resized.jpg

Here you can see the bare metal on the underside of the passenger fender.
20210808_094213_resized.jpg

Some how the driver's side fender had a coat of black on the underside. I thought it might be epoxy coating from a "new" fender, but that was not a new fender judging by it's condition.
20210808_094228_resized.jpg

Side by side and in position for me to spray. Notice they are away from each other so I am not spraying in the direction of the fender I'm "not" working on. This raptor liner gets everywhere.
20210808_094322_resized.jpg

Okay, passenger fender primed. The top portion where the fender sits on the engine bay's painted surface cannot have a rough texture or it will scratch my engine bay to hell. So, I painted it black and will cover this with tape to keep the Raptor liner off of it.
20210808_101944_resized.jpg

Since the driver's side already had a coating on it no need to prime, but I did paint the mounting surface black.

Okay, now that everything is prepped time to spray.....

Needless to say I'm VERY happy with the final results.

Man, what a difference. I know this area really won't be seen, but it needed to be protected and since the rest of the bottom of the car looks good this had to be up to standard too.
20210808_121641_resized.jpg

20210808_121650_resized.jpg

Love this textured look.
20210808_121709_resized.jpg

Here you can see the antenna hole patch.
20210808_121726_resized.jpg

Unmasked the front since this area has a lot of bolt holes and wire passages. Didn't want to Raptor liner to dry and clog them up.
20210808_121759_resized.jpg

I'll let them dry and then unmask the whole thing.

I love it! Your attention to detail is off the charts. That’s why I mentioned opening a can of worms earlier. But we’ll worth opening it! One day I would love to see this in person. I am still looking forward to seeing a video of this running, hopefully even a dyno run

I might be in Dallas in October so had to look, too bad El Paso is so far, would love to see it in person.

Thank you geoffmt! Really appreciate your comment on my attention to detail. As I said before, a lot of you guys are really very kind in your appreciation of my build.

I know you said I was opening a can of worms, but honestly it needed to be opened. I was not happy with the overall appearance of my fenders and the side graphics needed to be updated anyway. The last time around I was not involved in the painting of the car. I guess I was blinded by the shinny paint and really didn't look closely at the actual quality of the job done. I'm glad I opened that can and made the fenders right. The way they should have been done all those years ago.

I had another guy on a different site tell me my car was beautiful and ridiculously badass and now I have 2 SVTP members telling me they would love to see my car in person. Coming from car guys I think those are the ultimate compliments. Thank you geoffmt and DSG2003Mach1!!!

Okay everyone,

Yesterday was Tuesday and it was a stellar day for my build. Normally this kind of stuff only happens on the weekends LOL.

First, after work I went into the garage and got started on my front bumper. This is the last big piece that needs some attention. So, I want to get it taken care of before my car comes back from the fabricator.

This bumper needs attention because it has rock chips, looks like over spray on the clear, some runs on the bottom side and there is a mark on the front center. I don't know what it is, but it looks like solvent pop they tried to sand and then polish got inside the holes and left a white rash looking thing.
20210810_084221_resized.jpg

Some bad spots on the tips.
20210810_084422_resized.jpg

Here is that mark on the front I mentioned. Have no idea what this is or how it got there.
20210810_123206_resized.jpg

Got aggressive with this. Started with 80 grit, then 180 grit and finished with 320 grit. Then wiped it down with wax and grease remover. Ready for primer.
20210810_133759_resized.jpg

I got it in it's first coat of primer. I will need to go over this with 600 grit. Then I'll prime it again, wet sand it with 600 again and then spray color and clear. Hoping to have it done by this weekend as my car should be back early next week.

Here is a close up of that area where the spot was. Looks good now.

Next, my fabricator called me and asked me to swing by because he wanted to show me something. SWEET!

So, I get there and first he shows me some things he did to include installing my passenger side tailpipe.

He got my side exit tip taken car of too. He cut it at an angle and aligned it with my pinch weld so you can see it, but it doesn't stick out past the body. This looks so badass!

20210810_173741_resized.jpg

Man, I love this routing of the tailpipes. Really reminds me of my 03 Cobra's.
20210810_173603_resized.jpg

This ended up being such a cool shot! This exhaust looks so mean LOL. I love it! Major kudos to my fabricator!!!
20210810_173615_resized.jpg

Took this as I was walking out LOL....

And lastly, the piece de resistance......

He got my radiator cover in mock up. He still has a few things to do in order to tighten this up, but he wanted me to give my approval before he goes final. Approval? This ting is going to look AMAZING!!!! More please LMAO!!!

I wasn't sure about the rolled look when my fabricator mentioned going this route. But, after seeing it I think it is badass.
20210810_172913_resized.jpg

It's going to have a very clean look.
20210810_173331_resized.jpg

20210810_173338_resized.jpg

My fabricator dimple died the cover to give it an aggressive look and allow for airflow/cooling. Sweet! Form and function!
20210810_173010_resized.jpg

I love the cutout for the radiator tube. I also like how this only covers the radiator components I wanted covered up, yet you can still see the accessories on the front of the engine.
20210810_173255_resized.jpg

This is going to look so clean once I paint the radiator cover. I've had a few people tell me I should polish the radiator cover and leave it like that. I don't feel it would look right as all my engine bay panels are painted. Yes, it does match my intake system as is, but remember I'm supposed to be having an air filter system made by Kindig that will match my valve covers and MC cover. So, you won't see the stacks as they are displayed in this picture.

Holy crap, I love this look with the radiator cover. I'm so glad I went this route with the upper radiator tube. Got to love the way things workout at times :D....
