Craigslist/facebook is like an on line garage sale, where I expect to haggle as well. I just sold my 65 F100 on craigslist and I knew we would have a small price dance, but I'm not a dealer and the truck was a toy, not everyday transportation in a hot market. I got what I wanted out of it. Still, I emailed back the other people that had expressed interest so they would know to move on, just like you do. Its a courtesy to the potential customers. Some people will never be happy. Guy would probably haver complained about a few rock chips if you had sold it to him.

13COBRA you’re a real piece of work, you know it? I just cannot believe you wouldn’t take that guys offer of $17,000.00 when he is clearly clueless as to what is going on price wise in the used vehicle market. Shame on you!

There’s reasonable offers, then there’s not a chance on Earth in 2021 offers. I think we all know where that $17,000.00 offer lands.

Put him on your email and social media campaigns.

BTW, never post negative interactions with clients on the Interwebz and ensure your employees do the same. You never know how that can come back to you in a digital world.

I get it all the time it seems. If I put a price on something FB market place or Craigslist that means that is the price. If you ask for less you won't get it. Now we paid about 100 for this desk...and it's mint....and I get this.....it happens.

Pretty funny, but part of the game is making offers.

**** that guy. You could have charged $30k for the truck in this environment and sold it within the exact same timeframe.

Price was more than fair.

Now.. what we all want to know is... what'd you pay for it?

Just over $21k.

I would appreciate it if other places followed up with customers like this.

I would want the same. For instance, we went and looked at a house last night, if it sold in between then and now, I'd kinda like to know.

I am still stuck on your comment that people are financing a 2005 for 72 months LOL.

We had a guy finance a 2013 Chevy 1500 last month for 87 months.

Put him on your email and social media campaigns.

It's actually against the law for me to put him in the email blast campaigns as he never opted in.

I agree with your second comment, but I don't believe this was a negative interaction on my end. I was truly trying to provide the best service I could and the guy got mad. I didn't give his name, phone number, email, etc.

Really? At what rate? Has to be double digit.
(Serious question)

Rates are cheap. New vehicles for 72 are in the 2-3% range, 84 would just be a hair higher. Used cars are in the 4-5% for 60-72 months. Probably 6% or so for 84 months.

5% of customers cause 90% of business problems. There are books about how businesses should simply ignore those customers.

Along those lines, "the customer is always right" is probably the single most misunderstood phrase on planet Earth.

I didn't know there was such a demand for Excursions. $24k for a 16 year old SUV with a poorly designed diesel engine just seems insane to me.

I know the diesel can be made reliable and it's a function of demand vs supply for the vehicle but damn, crazy prices.

As soon as I saw who the author was and the title I was like "of course he's a jerk, he's a car dealer". Just kidding @13COBRA , I know you are a good dude.

This is why I hate people and why I hate dealing with people, especially when it comes to buying, selling and haggling.

This. I manage an apartment community and it's the same deal. A handful of residents cause the majority of my stress. Oh the stories I could tell haha.

Haha thanks.

It's just crazy to me. If I had done something spiteful or something to him, I get it, but I truly felt like I was doing him a service! Oh well. Can't make everyone happy.

No reason to have emailed back. Clearly he was never going to a paying customer based on his initial email. You were ‘helping’ him by letting him know you sold it? If you have that much extra time, awesome. I’d have just moved along and forgot about him.

as an impartial observer it looks like the only purpose of the email was to "stick it to the guy" and throw it in his face that you sold it for higher, seemed spiteful. Im sure you meant well but alot of people wouldnt like that follow up

me personally i would have never paid that high for a 6.0L. Regardless of mileage and up keep its almost guaranteed to have high dollar repairs down the road. Things can get out of hand quick ..injectors, vgt, egr, oil cooler, ipr, ficm, head gaskets, hpop

that being said, if you get a line on a clean 05 eddie bauer v10 excursion hit me up..

I guess I'd be apologizing to you as well. I teach my employees to send a follow up email expressing that the vehicle they inquired about was sold, and then offer other alternatives...in this case, I don't have another alternative.

The worst conversation to have is for the guy to have called or emailed me last night saying he'll take it, only for me to tell him it's sold already.

Interesting take. Definitely didn't mean it like that. See above for explanation.

The customer who purchased it is doing a 7.3L swap.

I'll keep my eyes open for one.
