Okay everyone,

Went to the fabricator shop today. I purchased some clamps for my exhaust that he didn't like the other day. So, I ordered some V band clamps for my exhaust. They came in today, so I went to drop them off. He liked the V band clamps much better and so did I LOL.

While I was there I decided to try some spacers on my wheels. I have 17x8 on the car right now. So, I put a 1 inch spacer on the wheel to see if I can possibly fit a 17x9 out back. Looks like I may be in luck.

Here the hoop is pushed out an inch. Now the wheel fits better in the well and it looks like 17x9's will work out back with a backspacing of about 4.25 inches. That should give me a real nice deep dish look too.

With the car on the ground you can see there is enough of a lip over hanging the tire. Looks good to go to order some 17x9's when I'm ready.

He was working on my exhaust pipes when I got there, but he showed me he got my fuel lines installed. Sweet! I love progress.

He got them routed together and nice and tight up against the firewall. I'm happy with the results.

Hello everyone,

It's been a couple of weeks since I talked to the Kindig rep. So, I sent him an email today. He responded and told me he did pass on that I was good with the size of the part and wanted to find out about cost and time to build them. He says he has not heard anything back yet.

I responded back and told him that I await his answer and told him that if we can make this happen I wanted to go up there in person to pick it up.

So, we will see what happens. Just wanted to give you guys an update.

A friend of mine has met him a couple times at various car shows. I’m actually headed to Salt Lake City this weekend but that’s just to go pick up a rescue dog, would love to see the Kindig shop one day, highly unlikely that they are open on Saturday for tourists

Thank you DSG! That was my sentiment exactly. I needed to change the numbers and I wanted to address the area on the fender where the bolts go in the engine bay.

Once I seen the scratch marks in the paint and the area behind the bumper where they didn't apply enough clear and the bottom of the fenders where the body shop didn't do the body work correctly I felt they just needed to be completely redone.

I still have more to fix. There are a couple of rust spots coming through the passenger door on the side stripe and my rocker panels look as bad as the bottom of the fenders did.

I told my painter about those areas. Then I told him "You want me to drive you crazy?" Then I said "Let's just repaint the whole car!" LMAO!!! He looked at me funny and then said "Let's do it!" LOL.

I don't think we are going to paint the whole car, but once the fenders are back on and I look at it we "may" have to at least blend the doors. That won't be a problem because we need to fix the side stripes on the car and fix the rocker panels as well.

So, I may continue to bite the bullet and make sure anything not up to par gets that way before it's all said and done. LOL.

Thanks again for providing feedback. I appreciate it!

That’s that can of worms! Once the repaint is completed, your car will be 100%. You won’t have those annoying spots that only you see that will drive you crazy. At least there’s not that much left to do paint wise!

Yeah, he seems like a good dude. When I sent him the diecast I built for him he sent me a hand written note to thank me. I thought that was cool that he took the time to do that. When talking to the Kindig rep he stated that they are doing shop tours again, but only on Friday's. And you are correct, they are closed on Sat and Sun.

Yeah, I have given it a lot of thought. Once then fenders go back on if they look great and the doors look okay I may open that can of worms all the way and just repaint the car. It's only costing me time and materials. The question then becomes do I have the time to do it and meet my self imposed deadline? I know that the bad areas can be fixed, but I need to make sure the repaired areas blend into the rest of the car. So, how this can of worms is opened is still being debated LOL.

Okay everyone,

Need some opinions here. If money were not an option, just based strictly on looks which wheel would you guys go with?

Option A:

This is the wheel I found that looks a lot like what I already have. The spoke design is almost exact and even the center section has that "round" look to them. I really like these as replacements and I can get them in the correct size and backspacing.
20210728_220916.jpg

Option B:

Then I found these on the website. The design is close being a 5 spoke wheel. However, the spokes themselves have a different look. The center section is completely different. It has a spinner, which I love, and the center section covers the lug nuts instead of them being exposed. Now the issue here is the website indicates these wheels only come in 18 inch and above. I'm no sure an 18 inch wheel will look right on a classic car.

So, I'm torn. It's either go with a replacement wheel that I know the size and look already works well with my set up or I risk it and go with the bigger wheel and the addition of the spinner to see if the addition of a bigger wheel and spinner will look just as good, if not better, than what I already have.

What do you guys think?

Okay everyone,

Went to the fabricators shop today to give him a deposit on the work he's doing for me. He had started on the exhaust. He was taking measurements yesterday and started welding today.

He managed to get the O2 sensor bung welded in on the driver's side.

I like this stainless steel exhaust pipe I got off eBay. It looks good and doesn't really turn blue during the welding process. I also like how tight he got the 3 inch exhaust to the floor.
20210729_152626_resized.jpg

I'm going to have him install an "H" pipe. I'm not a fan of "X" pipes on a classic car. I like the rumble of an "H" pipe over an "X" pipe.

Thank you DSG! Yeah this guy is an amazing fabricator and welder. I feel very lucky to have my car in his shop. He is always very busy.

I can't wait to show you guys the finished exhaust set up we have planned.

ground clearance is so important, I ****ing hate my exhaust for this reason, some custom work may have to happen, tired of scraping all the time.

I might be in Dallas in October so had to look, too bad El Paso is so far, would love to see it in person.

Yeah, I hear you DSG. My fabricator has told me that when he views a car from the side he hates to see the exhaust hanging down low. On my 03 Cobra the exhaust was so low that when I went over a manhole cover it actually knocked my exhaust off at the muffler to H pipe connection. Had to take it to a muffler shop to get repaired.

October is when I'm supposed to be going to San Diego for the big Mustang car show. But, yeah, if you or anyone else is every in El Paso feel free to look me up. I think it's cool to meet fellow SVTP members. I met @01yellercobra on this site and then in person. Even his family and my family have met and we talk off this site all the time now. Pretty cool friendship I have made through this site.

JMO, but I think you've done enough work to the car that the 18's won't look too out of place. Just don't run a 20 series sidewall with them and I think it'll be ok. Keep it in the 30-35 series and I think it'll blend nicely. Plus I think the larger wheel set up will follow the curve of the wheel well better. If that makes sense.

Will look nice and give him an extra half inch or more of ground clearance!

Thank you guys! After getting feedback here and talking to my wife I am leaning towards getting the wheels with the spinners in an 18x9 out back and 17 or 18 x 7 up front. Still trying to think what the best way to go is for fit and function and obviously, aesthetics.

Choosing a wheel and tire combination is hard LMAO!!!

Hello Everyone,

Overall it was a great weekend. There was only one minor hiccup, but it was addressed.

First thing I did was begin the cut and buff process on my fenders. Man, this is hard work, but what a transformation it makes in the appearance of the paint.

I worked on the driver's fender first. Here you can see the orange peel and dirt nibs in the paint.
20210731_081934_resized.jpg

This is after 1000 grit. At first I wasn't going to go over the G.T. 427, but it had some imperfections and I realized it needed to be worked. Glad I did because it leveled out the paint a little in the process.
20210731_094319_resized.jpg

A little more of a difference using 1500 grit.
20210731_101319_resized.jpg

And here she is after 2000 and 3000 grit.
20210731_103549_resized.jpg

First step in the polish process. All I can say is DAMN, looks great already LOL.
20210731_135036_resized.jpg

Now the bottom looks the way it should have when the body shop was done with it originally. This is still the first polish.
20210731_142214_resized.jpg

Got the rest of the fender completed with first step in polish.

Man, am I glad I worked the G.T. 427 LOL....

Here are the final results after the 3 step polish.

It took me most of the day to cut and buff the driver's fender, but man was it worth it.

I love looking at the reflection. Looks like a mirror LOL.
20210731_144433_resized.jpg

You can clearly see what's hanging up on the walls of my garage.

20210731_152052_resized.jpg

Okay, as mentioned I had a hiccup (Stuff happens LOL). After finishing the driver's fender I got ready to start on the passenger fender. I flipped the fender upright to start on the top and noticed that it had a case of solvent pop. For those of you that don't know what that is, solvent pop happens when you spray too much clear. What happens is the top dries before the bottom. This does not allow for the gasses to escape, so they create tiny gas bubbles in the clear. Since this happens at the bottom of the clear it normally goes all the way down to the base coat and cannot be sanded out. So, a re-spray is needed.
20210725_135243_resized.jpg

I called my painter on Saturday and he said he would come out early on Sunday and help me fix it. So, on Sunday we sanded out the solvent pop and began to re-spray the top of the fender. Since this only happened at the back of the top portion of the fender we only sprayed that area with color.
20210801_093022_resized.jpg

We masked the side of the fender to keep overspray off.
20210801_093032_resized.jpg

Here is the area where the solvent pop happened. Yes, there is orange peel and dirt nibs, but that's normal.
20210801_110930_resized.jpg

Okay, now the top of the passenger fender is good to go. I'll let it dry this week and cut and buff it next weekend.
