Sixth-Generation Camaro Z/28 Cancelled: Exclusive
It’s not a shock that GM is ending the Camaro after this generation. According to the article, development ended for the Alpha platform Z/28 variant; along with the power plant that is what was supposed to be the successor to the LS7. Other articles state that the Z/28 would’ve been equipped with a variation of the C8Z06 FPC V8. Though I find the LT3 to be more intriguing; the 5.5L wound be a good choice for a Road course focused muscle car. It would be interesting to know how close the Z/28 could get to performance of the ZL1 or ZL1 1LE, if it was a finished product.

That's too bad the Camaro is going away again. The way the political head winds are blowing, this is likely the last V8 powered Camaro we'll ever see. GM only has themselves to blame for this. They built a car that was a home run when it come to performance, but was a failure when it came to design, user friendliness, etc. I rented a sixth gen on business trip a few years ago, it would be a hard car to live with daily. This is bad news for the Mustang too, the less competition, the less Ford needs to do to any future models.

Camaro's performance is creeping too close the Corvette. While Id never want a Camaro (cant see shit out of it, design is meh and the interior is terrible), credit the Camaro performance engineers to get this thing as good of a performer as it is.

I think GM is doing what GM always does: looks at the numbers. As good as the car is, its money and resources being used to develop a niche market car. I think most people that want a Mustang, are just going to buy the Mustang, same with Challenger and Charger. Not too many people cross shop in the pony car segment. Some do of course, but not enough for GM.

Also, often times a used Corvette is as much or cheaper than a new V8 Camaro. If you just need a seat to transport your pussy, then you get the used Vette all day long. Corvette is a double edged sword for Camaro.

No surprise. With the exception of a few years out of the fifty plus, the Mustang has consistently outsold the Camaro and in terms of pony cars, people don't want it.

I'm glad I got mine when I did and I plan to keep it for a very long time. The car is flawless and drives way better than any Mustang I have owned and as a bonus doesn't live in the dealer's service bay (sorry but my experience with Ford has been bad and worse). I do hope GM just kills it completely rather than making it a POS electric. But then, Ford's probably gonna do the same thing. Sigh.

The 2 door coupe segment has fallen off a cliff, and continues to do so. The buyer pool is shrinking. Even with the mustang as the long time leader of the segment, it's sales have waned significantly (and much more volatile YoY) over the past few decades.

The camaro will be the next victim.
