I haven't had a chance to go check it out in person yet but my grandmother called saying her 2008 expedition with the console shifter is sometimes difficult to get it to go back into park. It has no issues starting, no issues shifting out of park (seems like the brake pedal sensor causes that).

Just curious if anyone else has run across this, so far my google searching just turns up 9 million threads about vehicles that won't come out of park

Pop the cable off the range selector on the trans, just have the wheels choked and see if you can move the range selector without it binding. If it’s good then I would check if there is something blocking it going into park at the shifter.

Try this vid and see if it works, basically i think he is saying its like the same problem the f250's had (if the link doesn't work).

ok, had to go run a few errands and she was home so jumped in it for a few minutes. Honestly, I think it's her. She's early 80s and arthritis in that hand, I think she's sometime either pushing it forward before squeezing the button or she's letting go of it before making it to park so then shes still trying to push it forward and squeeze the button. Trying to push it forward and then squeeze the shifter is the only way I had "trouble" with it.

Again, it is a console shifter, not column. She's going to pay more attention the next few days and see if it happens again or not. The shifter does seem like it takes more effort than my 12 but it didn't seem like an actual problem at this point.

I tapped the brake pedal a ton of times, the little shift solenoid clearly cycles every time I tried it.
