Can your wife cover two incomes?
I appreciate all the advice everyone.

And yes she can. The cost of living in my little town of 13,000 is pretty low. Her earned income is over 4x my earned income.

I took a pay cut last Aug because I didn't want to be a shift lead anymore. That was probably a 10k drop in pay a year.

I'll likely keep working for awhile. I always told her I'm done with a full time job at 50.

Without telling us
What do you make a year?
What does she make a year( sounds like it’s seasonal)
What’s your combined income
How much of your income funds your toys and new shop
Do you get bored easily
How does your 401k( or whatever) look
Can you dump more money in the 401k
in the next 5 years
If you work at your job another 5 years and get to 20 years do/ can you get a pension
Any chance at getting moved up to management and not work as hard physically?
Do a lot of research before you decide

Statement from post # 5:
.
" To me, quitting a job and retiring are two very different things. Retiring implies a pension and benefits. Quitting implies no longer earning pay and benefits. "
.
After crunching the #'s, I accepted a forced buy-out @ the end of 2008. My yardstick was being able to not change a thing in my life after the buy-out. If you can do that, independent of your age, I say go for it.
..................Keep in mind, life has no " do overs " !!
.
.....................I might add that this 2008 buy-out was my 2nd gig, retired from the Navy in 1989..
The key is no debt load !!

If you retire and your wife leaves you and takes everything can you still afford to retire? If the answer is no you need to keep working.

The difference between rich and wealthy.

Rich.. being able to whatever you want as long as you keep making money.

Wealthy... being able to do whatever you want if you stop making money.

You better put a lot of thought into this before you do anything, life has a way of turning on us and we need to be prepared for it.

If she is all for it and you’re good with it. Why not get a part time job at that golf course? You could supplement income as well by detailing cars at your shop. Maybe even get you a small utility trailer and mow a few yards if you like doing that.

So here's the deal. My wife has been telling me for about a year to quit my full time job and maybe get a part time gig.

I've been at the same job for 15 years. It's a butter factory. I put in 12 hour shifts, but only work 14-15 days a month. It's hard on the body.

She owns our local H&R block. She wants me home more often during tax season. She put on 70+ hours a week from Jan through mid April. She wants me home more during this time taking care of the dogs. I also help with the office, mainly cleaning it once a week, being an errand boy, ect, lol.

I could get a summer time gig at our local golf course. Mainly cutting grass and such. Or part time at our local Ford dealership. I worked there many years ago.

We don't have kids and already figured out health insurance. We enjoy our summers together, lots of golfing!

I'm only 41 years old!

Thoughts?

I’m gonna play Dave Ramsey here for a minute.

What’s your household income?
Do you have any debts?
Are you both putting 15% of gross to retirement? (401K? IRA?)
Is the house paid off?
Are you investing in mutual funds?

If the answer is NO to any of those, you are nowhere near ready to retire.

Keep in mind, $1,000,000 for retirement equates to $33,333 a year for 30 years. (Age 65-95).

Can you and your wife live on $33K a year if you retire? (Not including Social Security…pretend it’s gone).

If she asks me that we must of won the lotto as she's a stay at home mom.

If you guys are really comfortable and can get by easily with you on a PT or none at all, it's really up to you and your wife and your long term goals.

If you retire and your wife leaves you and takes everything can you still afford to retire? If the answer is no you need to keep working.

1. Claim he is a now a trans woman
2. Go to court in a dress
3. ????
4. Get alimony

Thanks for all the input everyone! I'm going to continue working full time. I have too many expensive hobbies and I need my own money.

But seriously. My money is mine. Her money. Is also mine.
Do what’s best for you. If you like to work. Work. Me. I hated it. It got in the way of my free time.

I tell ya that Magnum 500 wheel is as timeless as the 03/04 Cobra wheel.
Looks great on the fastback. And anything else.
Thanks I'd actually like to see it in person. TFX international is scheduled to pick it up next Wednesday.
