Ur not even close to retirement bro! U need to work and save for another 10-15 years at least before u even dream of retirement. I would surely look for a better job but doing nothing isn't an option bro unless u have old family money to live off of.

Have u been investing in any Roth IRA's the last 15 years? H&R Block isn't offering her a pension. If u can live off ur wife salary u should have more than (1) Roth IRA by now.

One person incomes today dont cut it if u want to live decent in retirement. Unless she is making $250k a year u need to find a new job bro cause she has to save for BOTH of u for retirement!

Quitting isn't even a distant option for u. When ur not working ur spending money! U better have LOTS of money to spend if u dont plan on working again. U need to re-think ur life bro ur living in a fantasy land right now.

Im about to RETIRE myself. But that comes with a Pension and full medical and ive maxed out my 401k for 25 years. What ur doing is quitting a job. Apples to oranges..... Ur REALLY under estimating how much money u and ur wife will need for retirement imo.

A fool and his money are soon parted......

Given the current work climate, you could quit. Then in 6 months to a year, if you're not liking it, go back. Wouldn't be surprised if you ended up with a sizable pay increase out of it.

If your job has any type of retirement benefits such as health care I would wait until you hit that mark. Especially since your wife is self employed.

I agree with this 99% except for the 250K part. He could live somewhere the cost of living is low and get by with one income.

My wife's been trying to get me to slow down (47).
I changed jobs last November from dozer operator, long hours, big ot and hard on the head alone all day to a more physical job but with a bunch of great guys job in the pulp mill.
I'm trying to do less ot but it's hard to deprogram myself after doing it for 23 years.
I enjoy the hard labour. Feel like I've accomplished something.

My opinion is to do what YOU WANT TO DO. And what's best for you.

We don’t know your financial situation, but it doesn’t sound bad, so I will give examples of people I know who have retired.

1. My dad retired from Cummins at 53 years old. He started building fence for 10 bucks an hour and doing remodeling.

2. My uncle just retired at 62…even though he went back to work the very next week and worked the full week….only he’s “retired”.

3. Just ran into a lady that retired a couple years back from where I work. She’s a cashier at a dealership.

4. Had an uncle retire early from an electric company. He retired two more time before actually retiring the 3rd time.

You’ll get back into the work force is some way. Lol

My mom died before retiring, and she was in a position where she could have easily done it. I wouldn’t call what you’re considering retiring, more like semi-retirement.

If you can do it, do it. Just make sure you can support it up to your older years in life.

yup. Both my grandpas, my step dad. Died before retiring

My dad will likely be the same way.

**** all that. All that work .. to not make it to where you don’t have to

I would love to not HAVE to go to work, but I could never retire that young. My goals in life are just too expensive. Not to mention what was already talked about how it's expensive to get old with declining health.

I could retire now, but I can’t sit still yet and still making stupid money. I’m older than most of you guys.

Moderating this website is a full time job with some of the people we have on here…

I’ve found your retirement gig!

Retire at 41..... HAHAHAHAH What a world

I'd buy a shit load of beer, sit on the couch with the dogs and drink it for a couple of weeks, and then see if she really is good with me retiring.

Don't forget naked, i wouldn't even get dressed in the morning. Get up, coffee and bacon every morning while watching Fox news, then hit the beer an hour after that.

This is a test.
Don't do it.

I'm sure she believes what she I telling you, but her head is probably in the clouds daydreaming some fantasy that is not even close to what actual reality will look like.

Right, no laundry except to go the bar for a couple hours in the evening.

Unless you can do something to occupy alot of your time then i wouldnt quit/retire. You will get very bored. My father retired at 61 from the police force after 31 years. 2 months later he picked up a part time gig at a golf course cause he was so damn bored all the time. I also believe when you stop working/occupying your time your health starts declining. I have alot of 90+ year old customers at my job and they all say the secret to living a long life is to keep moving, and for alot of people that means working.

I am 73 and I retired 5 years ago, so now I only work 5 days a week at pretty much the same job.
I believe if you are ready to die you just need to go home sit around and overeat until you die way to soon.

If you and your wife both agree, then go for it.

Mine is starting to push me to move out to the country and put up a steel building so I can pursue my dream. Of course, I would have to give up my career to do so. I'm still too afraid to attempt it.
