We too bought an appliance package. 2 years old the mother board on the stove went south. Tech comes out diagnoses the stove, then calls his company. They say it exceeds the repair limit, and will send a check. The wife is the one who got to experience this visit. I get home and she explains. I said is it replacement cost or what? She didn't know. I could see a screwing coming. So we take a ride down to Lowe's and the manager couldn't answer my questions in front of half a dozen other costumers. The manager had a brand new stove installed the next day for us to use in the meantime while the matching new stove came in. Lowes took the heavily discounted check the warranty company sent and accepted that for payment 8 weeks later. Lowe's did their job. The third party warranty company sucks six way to Sunday. Also never ever buy Whirlpool again! Whirlpool sucks. Whirlpool dropped the ball with with parts support. Did I mention whirlpool sucks?

My experience with Lowe’s warranty was similar. Third party that Lowe’s reps schedule for you. My rental home refrigerator was leaking water. Google said it is a common issue and I thought it would be corrected quickly.

The repair people came to my residence, not my rental. Trouble ticket had correct address on it and I’m like you’re at the wrong house you should be 3 hours up north right now.

Called to complain and get service ASAP. Since my rental is in a remote location, next appointment was 3 weeks. 3 weeks later tech goes out and tries to unblock a line and ends up breaking the freezer liner.

I lost my shit with the incompetence and escalated with Lowe’s to cash me out for a new refrigerator because my in-laws live in the home and need a working refrigerator.

5 days later I got approved for reimbursement.

The bad news is I bought an appliance package and got steep discounts. I waited for the best deal for the same refrigerator and it cost us 300 more than what we paid 3 years ago. I bought the 5 year plan since we have no choice but at least we know now what to expect.

+1 on Speed Queen. They make quality, simple appliances. Far as I know, still manufactured in Ripon, WI.

Kinda off topic, but if you need parts, I've had excellent luck with PartsSelect.com.
(They're a canadian company, soooo.)
Sometimes the issue you have may even be listed by a previous Customer on their website. It may assist with your troubleshooting. I like their repair videos (if available). They've helped me remove/replace parts without breaking the little tabs/bosses used to hold them in. Sometimes it's almost impossible to see how assemblies are held together.

We have no issue trouble shooting and repairing appliances, etc. Everything is available on the web. Repair info can be downloaded for free by most manufacturers. Our most difficult repair was an internal projection tv that the color wheel disintegrated. We fixed it and it lasted another 5 years. Two nights ago the wife, my 13 year old and me repaired a 25 year old hp plotter at 9pm -11pm in the evening so I could print out a set of house plans for a customer.

I wanted to replace the board on the stove that broke but the part was near $500. That's BS, unacceptable and down right crooked, as it is a common repair. Whirlpool clearly is focused on design obsolescence not customer satisfaction. Did I mention I will never buy whirlpool again! Whirlpool sucks.

Buy the way. I must add that Lowe's provided 3 full kitchen appliance and cabinets, for 3 custom houses I built the year before. That leverage did help I believe.

I had issues with a phone many years ago where I got it wet at the beach and went back to best buy because the guy sold me the geek squad warranty saying it covered damages and blah blah you are all covered bs. Turns out water damage was the only damage that wasn't covered. I was pissed and haven't bought anything from them in a long time. I don't really see best buy being a company that will be around forever. We all remember circuit city right??

Cut your losses, sell those pieces of shit on Craigslist and go get you a set of Speed Queens....

Those may be out of my budget…next ones I but will be CHEAP. Best ones I ever had were the cheap ones. Maybe I got lucky.

I remember way back on an Xbox 360 they had 2 different warranties and one made it pretty clear you only got one repai

Is there a section on limitations that might have the maximum coverage limit verbiage?

Maybe it’s in here. Want to take a look for me?http://storage.bestbuy.com/geeksqua.../gsp_2017_09_10_to_2018_09_01_v14_english.pdf

I just bought the simplest set of GEs I could find. I wanted Speed Queen, but I’m disappointed by their newer models. The GE washer I bought is larger, has a dual action agitator, I can set the water level where I want it, and it does not temper the hot water. Very minimal electronics as well. I just hope it’s not a huge POS. The 20 year old dirt cheap Hot Points I have in a vacation house are still going strong. They are dead but simple.

I got so sick of shopping washers a d dryers a couple months ago that I nearly bought a 2-stroke Maytag and called it a day.

I had better luck with cheap ones, but my wife wanted large capacity, HE, quiet, etc.

I will say that the Geek Squad repair reps have been great (dealt with 2 repairmen). The one that had been out most of the times is very knowledgeable and is a big car guy. Has a modified first gen CTSV in his garage at home (it’s fun to talk to him).

I agree the policy is misleading. I bought online, so it was up to me to read all the fine print BS. I was fond of Circuit City….I think they died out when I was in my early teens. I don’t see Best Buy going anywhere for a while, but who knows. They are very strong in my area.

I havent had any issues with Geek Squad, have gotten either a full refund on a non working product or have gotten a fix.

Speaking of fix, im due for a 3rd repair on a Samsung Fridge for the infamous ice maker. Going by their Geek Squad policy, I MIGHT qualify for a refund up to my original purchase price. So no complaints here. So far......

Appliances are garbage these days. My friend had a Samsung fridge that went out after 2yrs. These things are 2-3k and go out like that, we're being scammed.

"Shouldn't we make this thing more reliable?"

"Nah, put a window in the door that lights up when you knock on it and give it wifi"

Our HDC's switched to Speed Queens last year in our living units. Probably bought 50+ of them.

Needless to say we switched back to the cheapest washers and dryers we could find. The Speed Queens were 3x the price but didn't last any longer than the cheap models.

Thank you for pointing that out. That fine print got me. Looks like I’m SOL, but I’m still tactfully pestering them. I spoke with the original rep today. She is pushing harder for me, and said that she would have more details tomorrow. We shall see.

Speed Queen for sure. Bought mine from a mom and pop store before they closed up. 10 year warranty and you literally call, yes call Speed Queen to register your warranty. You actually talk to a person. No recording when calling in. Some sweet lady answered the phone and I told her I needed to register my washer. Kind of abnormal for 2019.

If you have the coin, do it. It’s the brand I grew up with as a kid. We got 20 + years out of one Speed Queen washer.

That what I bought, entry level whirlpool stuff. I have no leverage with Lowe’s. The old fridge still works. In-laws put epoxy on the crack and fixed the drain line. It lives in their garage as a backup.

My home has Bosch appliances and the microwave latch switch striker plate worn to the point the latches were misaligned. $65 bucks for me to repair. The dishwasher just threw a ghost for recirculating pump, apparently common issue for these to go bad after a few years. Kitchenaide refrigerator freezer lights inop and it’s $130 for LED circuit board. Not buying that.

My home was built 4 years ago.

I'm needing a fridge I've been looking around and reading reviews and I still have no idea what to get. Sometimes reading reviews makes the decision harder. One thing I do know is Samsung is junk. I just want one that has water and ice dispenser and will last for at least 10yrs. My cheap Kenmore with the small top freezer is 25+ years old. Also my cheap plane washer dryer is 21 years old and the only thing I did was change the heating element in the dryer.

you gotta remember most happy customers don't leave reviews. I ended up with an LG, in the configuration/size I wanted it was about the only one that would fit (they're a little shorter for whatever reason). If there were major issues - like some of the ice makers being involved in a class action - I ruled out those based on that. I just found one I liked that didn't have too much extra BS, got the extended warranty and hoped for the best. I bought mine from Costco with their warranty, Costco does seem easier to deal with a lot of times so that helped.

Yeah that is true, if I'm happy with something I never go back and write a review. I need to do the same make a decision and like you said hope for the best.

We had an LG fridge at our last house. We weren't looking for LG it just happened as it fit the space and was the style we were looking for. We were in that house for 11 years and it stayed with the house. We ended up with an LG dishwasher because the first one died. That was about 5 or 6 years old when we moved. So we picked up an LG fridge for the new house when we moved. It's only been 8 months but so far so good.
