Batteries

Hey guys,

How long do you guys normally go before replacing battery? Mine is a motorcraft battery and it's probably 9-10 years old.

I keep it on a tender most of the time, but lately at the shop I haven't. Volts are reading around 12.5 after it's sat for 4-5 days.

I'm thinking about just replacing it with another motorcraft one.

Definitely outlived it's life.

Most batteries are toast in 3-5 years.

I'd throw a red top in it.

I got 13 years out of the original Motorcraft. It was on a maintenance/tender it's whole life. Put another Motorcraft in it, four years ago.

I got 12 years out of my original, it was never on a tender, but it was daily driven for most of that time

I run the Auto Zone yellow. Still made by Johnson controls, same as the OE. First one lasted 8 years.

Smart man with the tender but it may be time to retire it just to be safe. Motorcraft is what'd id go with as well.

Might have been a bad run but had several motor craft in my f150 that were no good (positive terminal post issues). At this point I buy the cheapest 3 year full replacement I can get, in FL it’ll be dead in 3-4 usually

Damn. Heat kills batteries. I've actually left mine in the car the last few winters here in Minnesota. Non heated and non insulated garage.

Check that, now black all around. Yeah, 3 years is about max here for a battery.

You've got a few excellent options, Brady. Can't go wrong with any of them. Your gut seems to be to go with another Motorcraft. Nothing wrong with that choice.

Motorcraft batteries, kept ~5 years. Batteries are always pulled and kept inside during the winter, on/off a tender.

BTW: No issues... yet.

I always try to keep my best battery in my terminator as I have had so many alternator issues over the years that I want a strong battery in case I lose the alternator charge and need to get the car back home on just battery power.

So If one my cobras battery goes out I rotate out of the terminator and replace the terminator to the newest battery.

That being said I have went to odyssey AGM now. I would usually get 7 or 8 years from a lead acid. Hoping to get 12 or so from the odyssey. (Seattle climate)

When I ran lead acid batteries I tended to go with the napa legend, as I could always find a napa coupon and the price was good, and they were close to me any virtually all over if I needed a warranty claim.

My only concern in running the OEM motorraft is I had one go bad (in my daily ford explorer) they don't just let you bring it into the counter and warranty it. They want the car there and with the techs. Or so was a few years back. Than you have to get the car there and all the bs with it.

Not as many choices for group 58/59 batteries now days as there used to be though.

all three of my fords seem to need a new motorcraft BXT-59 at 4.5 years. it's almost weird how consistent they are.

i put on about 1,200 miles each month between the three

I'm actually surprised how short of a battery life some of you guys have had. I will likely go motorcraft again. I've been lucky with this one, the next one will probably only last 3-4 years lol.

Motorcraft battery in our Edge lasted 2.5 years and 60,000 miles. Mopar batteries in my ram 2500 Cummins were 5.5 years old and 60,000 miles when they crapped out on a cold day in January. I just changed a set of gold top duralast batteries in an old Cummins back in March that were 9 years old… but I bought a gold top duralast battery a couple of years ago, it lasted a day, literally one day. Bought another motorcraft for cheaper to replace it.

Haven't had great luck with Optimas like I've had in the past. Risk of sounding old, don't make em like they used to.

I don't drive much and have a Mach amp ruining my batteries I need to hunt down.

It seems batteries are hit or miss. Curious to see how long the optima red top in my 90 coupe lasts. Haven't heard much good about them lately. But I wanted 800 cca because it's mounted in the trunk.

I have found most last as long as the warranty.
We have ford,toyota,and dodge,

2-5 yrs.

Been using Walmart,,
Last one was orielys,,on cobra
It lasted only a couple of months
But was a free replacement upto 2yrs

The OLD gold top duralast batteries used to be a great battery. But it seems to be a battery that just makes it past the warranty. As I said in a previous post, I had one fail the same day it was purchased and there was nothing wrong with our car, it was just a defective battery.
