Front tire height? Should it be equivalent to rear tires?

Hello All - A couple of weeks ago - I posted a question regarding Nitto NT 555 R2 tires (rear tires) 315/35R20's - for my 10.5'' width Shelby Venice wheels. These have a height of 28.66''. It turns out that'll be fine. Now I'm wondering about the front tires...I called Nitto - they recommended NT 555 G2's for the front. My wheels are 9.5'' width...which is fine. The Nitto tech suggested keeping the front tires at the same height @ 28.66''. He recommended 275/40 20. That's not what I was thinking. I was considering either 275/35 @ 27.56'' height or 285/35's @ 27.87'' height. Is it important to keep the fronts and rears the same height? Has anybody here done this? Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I've run 315/35-20s with 285/40-19s, which are the same specs as a 285/35-20. Personally, I think a 315/35-20 is too tall. I don't know if your tires are available in 315/30-20s, but they would be in the same ball park as 275/35-20s. I don't know what clearance issues you might run into with something taller than a 28" tire up front. I haven't had any issues with either a 285/40-19 or 285/35-20 up front. I do get a scraping sound when I back up full lock on the driver's side.

FWIW, stock fronts are about 1/2" shorter than the stock rears...

I've been keeping an excel spreadsheet on the tires I've considered buying and the tires I have bought, along with all of the particular manufacture'ers specs. Norton is spot on with the Original Goodyear F1 tires had a half inch difference in tire height from front to back. I had went with a 275/35-19 Nitto NT05 front to match my back tires a while back, actually my avatar is that setup. I never cared for the skinny rubber-band look of it at the time. That front tire was 3/4 of an inch shorter than the factory front tire, while the NT05 315/35-20 rear was .84 larger than the factory rear. That difference actually raked the stance of the car quite a bit too. Just some things to consider when buying tires.

I have about the closest front/rear tire height being the same.......27.6 front and 27.7 rear while also adding front end grip in turns and rear end grip with traction.......
