So I'll preface this by saying I just did a full tune up with plugs wires coils and fuel filter. All ford brand stuff also cleaned the imrc plates and they are functional.

Now I noticed my car just doesn't seem to have the ass it should. 245 cheap tires and doesn't really seem to make them scream even in 1st from like a 20 roll. Car has a gen 1 jlt, xpipe, cat back and march dampener and under drives.

So I noticed after I stuck an sct strategy tune in it I was getting some break up at wot, pretty much all rpm after 3k. Stock tune it does not.I have a few theories....

1. Bad or too small fuel pump. The car has the ass end of another car possible it's an earlier gt or v6 with a smaller pump. Or it's 23 years old and just dying out.
2. Bad gas or low octane .
3. The Cai connection is not the best and could possibly be pulling in unmetered air.
4. FPR because it's also 23 years old.

5. Unrelated, but possible mounts for motor and trans are shot too, lot of shifter movement under WOT.

Your thoughts are welcome

Is your mustang 94-95, or 96-98? Are the wires you used OEM or the Ford Racing brand? I had two sets of the Ford Racing wires on my 96 Cobra, first set melted, and second set would not connect worth a crap on the coils. The car would intermittently run like a POS.

It's a 97.

I put the 9mm ford racing wires on it but was having the same issues as with my stock Motorcraft.

Sounds like your tune is funky as it doesn't do it with stock base file as you stated. Most likely fuel or timing map or both is off and needs correction.

It's just the sct strategy tune so I don't think it's really doing much. Probably going to pull it out and revert back to stock. All I really care about is turning off the check engine light from the rear o2s. Just don't want to bandaid the problem if I do have a fuel issue.

If I knew for sure it was the tune I'd just sell the x3 and buy gears. Be a better investment anyway

Bought gears today motive 4.30s

Now I'll blame this half on me but lost to what I think was a v6 challenger 50-80 all because I decided to run in 3rd from 3k to about 5k maybe a bit higher. Same hp, weighs more and probably had a much better rpm because it's auto

That's barely getting started for the 4v. Should've started at 4k. When my 01 was N/A I started around 4k and shifted around 6500.

Yeah that's why I blame myself. But these b head cars really need gear. And with the consensus being 4.30s I'm going that route. Pretty well an embarrassing moment

But I do forget it's a 23 yr old car with wore out stuff everywhere. Won't even break the tires free in 1st from a 20 roll

I wouldn't worry about that breaking tires loose thing. My Cobra wouldn't do that when it only had 20,000 miles on it when I bought it a decade ago. It has 93,000 now and it performs the same.

Should've been in second at 50mph with stock gears.
You're right. Especially with those 3.08s and thanks for making me feel better. Car is pretty well stock except catback x pipe and march sfi dampener

The 97 has 3.27s, not that it matters much. Not much better than 3.08s really. 4.30s will change how you view the car, you'll love them.

I marked a tire and rotated the wheels. And I got 3 full turns and barely past the 3rd turn for 1 full rotation. So I just assumed based on a few quick googles it was 3.08. Guess we'll know when I pull it all apart.

Just pulled it all apart for the 4.30 gears. Car has 3.08 gears in it. Waiting on some help to get them in but should be in a week or two
