Anyone ever sell their car and the payment was a cashier's check?

Currently in the process and I want to make sure this isn't a scam.

Buyer bought the car sight unseen and paid the deposit already. Sent the check in the mail today.

I'll be calling the bank tomorrow to confirm it's legit.

Advice?

Car doesn’t go anywhere until the check clears.

I bought a car with a cashiers check a while back. Sent it to the person using UPS (who knows how long the mail would take these days), once it cleared he shipped the car.

They can be faked like any other check though.

Had somebody try to use a fake for a car I was selling. ****ed up part was the bank just handed me back the check and didn’t care. Called police, they didn’t care since I still had the car. Said there was no crime. Lol

I bought a car sight unseen and did a wire transfer. I also paid for another one in person with a bank draft.

No crime, lol... That's fraud, and attempted grand larceny given the high dollar amount. Violent crimes skyrocketing lately have police not giving a shit about much though... Unless you're robbed at gunpoint, shot, or beaten seriously, police really don't give a shit.

Should have asked for a wire transfer.

Had a friend selling a Harley and received a fraudulent cashiers check. He was suspicious from the beginning anyhow. His bank put a 5 day hold on the check, then somehow found out about some big time scam on Craigslist using that same type of check. Apparently, this person/organization posing as a broker had bought multiple items, big ticket, expensive items using very authentic cashiers checks. It was an ongoing investigation at a very high level, that’s all my buddy was told.

When I recently sold my '14 I had the seller do a wire transfer and then had my bank get the cash ready for me which I then physically put in my other bank. If the buyer isn't willing to do that than let him walk.
I don't trust anyone, including banks.

Since I was fortunate enough to be somewhat close enough to the seller of my current car, I met at his bank and did a cash advance using my debit card for $25k+. No cash, no checks, no wires, just money directly deposited into his bank account from mine almost instantly.

Sold my Evo to a kid sight unseen. He paid me with a cashiers check and once it cleared i shipped the car.

We had great communication and we talked on the phone constantly. It was a smooth transaction.

Sold my Mazdaspeed3 last week, sight unseen, to a guy from Houston. Listed it through Tred for a small fee. It was nice to have a middle man so my phone number wasn’t out there and they act as escrow service so I didn’t have to worry about fake checks, cash, etc.

I bought a car a long time ago with a cashiers check.
On the flip side, it could actually take weeks before the bank catches on for a fake one. I know someone that this happened to, the bank caught on two weeks after he deposited it and was SOL at that point.

My bank said it literally can take up to six years.

How long did it take to clear?

Two business days and the money was in my account.

In my case, I listed the car on an Evo forum and it was another established forum member who bought it. He and I both had a good reputation and we talked at length about the sale. I think who you're dealing with on the other end makes all the difference with the sale.
