I see the jlt and fipk as about the only options and the fipk looks like just a filter and heat shield. Couldn't I just put a open filter on the end of the stock intake and would this require a re tune?

Looking to get 450-500whp out of a pulley, tune, intake, o/r pipe. Just kind of a budget build for now. Didn't know how much an intake really helped on these cars. Going to do an upper only just to wake her up a little.

There are a few options. What exactly are you looking to achieve?

The K&N cai actually proved to be one of the best CAI on the stock blower and had one of the biggest air filters.

Id go with the K&N Gen 2 for the 03/04 cobra. With those mods you'll be able to achieve 450hp + to the wheels.

Make sure you get tune for the pulley. A CAI will make a good difference.

That is exactly what I was thinking about doing. Don't want to spend 300 if I don't have to. It sounds cheap but there are a ton of other things I need to buy for this car. Also, these aftermarket intakes say may not fit with strut tower brace which is another mod on my list.

I have an Amsoil blue open ended, no-oil, filter on the end of the factory inlet tube. Gen 2 2.3 spinning 22psi. The car makes 714/680.

So yes, it can be done.

+1 had a kock off Steeda kit. Pretty much just a filter strapped to a VMP MAF housing and a JLT shield a friend gave me with a stock tube now, 700 proven here aswell. Stock TB size no point beyond a filter imho. Mine is necked up to fit onto a VMP GT500 tb and in my opinion is just starting to be a problem now.

opening up the intake is probably the single best thing you can do for any positive-displacement blower engine. restrictions on the intake side severely limit horsepower production.

don't skimp out - these cars are very mod-friendly but a good intake would be at the top of the list. using the stock intake along with a smaller pulley is like making the engine breathe through a straw.

But we talking Coke or a milkshake through thus straw. Dollars per HP if OP is budget oriented you think that's the first thing? People with stock tubes and manifolds myself included hit 700+. Depends on the goal. I've upgraded but I'm of the mind stock tube and stock logs will be fine in the ~450-475 range leaving most else stock except midpipe, CB, tune obviously. Skip a ported blower (I'm about to post one for sale so not helping my cause) and save that to jump to a better blower, grow from there. Only my opion from my experience.

Seeing intakes for $400 headers for $1500+ getting in used 2.3 range which will be a better deal even running low boost till you can afford the rest and turn it up.

I was hesitant to post what I did.....because I know conventional wisdom would say "this is a no brainer....open it up!"....but suffice to say, it is what it is. With a 2.3 whipple spinning 22psi, a jlt CAI and RAI were fitted on this car at one point, and dynoed....it made about a 1 hp difference versus the factory inlet tube/9" amsoil.

That's good info right there, so on a stock blower car would make prolly zero difference. On my other s550 I had a 2.3 TVS enclosed intake. It actually made a little less power with an open intake. Thought that was pretty weird to but the dyno doesn't lie.
