C5 Z06....should I?

So.... not a vette guy, but I’m a car guy. My brothers neighbor passed away recently and I have the opportunity to buy his Z. One owner.....and 200k miles lol. He drove this thing everywhere - cross-country road trips, going for 250mi drives with the dog, etc. Apparently he was fanatical about maintenance and upkeep, though.

It has some high-end shocks/struts ($5k? JRZ, had to look them up), RPM trans, McLeod RXT and alum flywheel, new torque tube, etc. Bigger radiator. Sounds like all engine stuff / exhaust is stock.

She’s asking $10k. I figure the car has totally depreciated at this point, so I can turn around and sell in a year or two if it’s not scratching that itch.

I have an 03 Cobra, so drag stuff is taken care of. It’s tempting to buy this, do heads/cam/longtubes, and have a car that I can take on road trips, etc. I know some of you guys have owned C5 Z’s - any thoughts? How concerned should I be with that amount of mileage? Any problem areas to look for? Should I do it?

Thanks

Phil

You know it's history and has a good history of maintenance. Can't go wrong.

A 10k buy in for a well maintained C5 Z06? Do it. Honestly, you got nothing to lose imo. C5Z’s are such a fun car and it’s actually one of my biggest regrets not picking up one when I had a chance

Do it. JRZ are very high end coilovers. Sounds like an awesome car and the owner didn't cheap out on the mods.

Alright well, glad to hear a unanimous decision. I don’t have the garage space but my in laws have a house a few blocks away so it’ll either live there or I’ll move the cobra over there.

So....heads/cam/etc - since it sounds like quite a few of you guys have experience with these, any suggestions? I’ve poked around a bit, looks like the stock 243s can be sent out and ported. Or TFS/AFR are an option too if it’s with the extra expense. I don’t know much about these LS engines but there’s tons of cam options. Figure something with good street manners, but would love to see some good gains if I’m going to do it. LG and SW longtubes/X get good reviews. I’ll probably keep the stock mufflers. Anything else bolt-on that I should do?

Seems like a typical SVT post where I’m modding a car that I don’t even own yet lol....

Thanks again

Phil

I know less about how they perform on LS6 but the atomic intake adds impressive gains across the curve on the LS7. It is worth the cost.

Yes, yes, yes!!

Find a nice LS7, keep the LS6 on a stand and drop that big displacement 7.0 into that C5. You're way ahead of the game if u get that ride 4 $10k.
