Any idea on what specifically these chips are used for in the f150s? Did these 1000s of trucks get to that location under their own power?

Other brands use them heavily for some of the premium options like 360* cameras, power running boards, blind spot monitoring, premium audio and WiFi, etc etc.

Good chance those trucks currently move under their own power.

Samsung raises logic chip investment to $151B, teams with Hyundai on auto chips
  • Samsung Electronics (OTC:SSNNF,OTC:SSNLF) raises its logic chip investment plan by 38 trillion won to 171 trillion won ($151 billion) through 2030 in a bid to become the world's largest logic foundry.
  • The foundry giant, the world's second largest behind TSMC (NYSE:TSM), will add a new production line in Pyeongtaek by the second half of 2022. The line will produce 14nm DRAM and 5nm logic chip, both based on the advanced extreme ultraviolet lithography technology. ASML (NASDAQ:ASML) supplies EUV machines.
  • “The entire semiconductor industry is facing a watershed moment and now is the time to chart out a plan for long-term strategy and investment,” says Dr. Kinam Kim, Vice Chairman and Head of Device Solutions Division at Samsung Electronics. “For the memory business, where Samsung has maintained its undisputed leadership position, the Company will continue to make preemptive investments to lead the industry.”
  • Separately, Samsung, Hyundai, South Korea's ministry, and industry groups are teaming up to take on the auto chip shortage, though the consortium didn't provide any further details.
  • Related: Yesterday, research firm Gartner said the global chip shortage will likely last until the second quarter of 2022.

Nissan to make 500K fewer vehicles this year than planned due to chip shortage
  • Nissan (OTCPK:NSANY) warns that it will produce about half a million fewer vehicles this year than originally planned due to the impact of the global chip shortage.
  • CEO Makoto Uchida says the Japanese automaker will take steps to try to get production back on track.
  • The latest projections on the global chip shortage indicate the issue could be a major factor in 2022 as well.
  • During the recent earnings call, Uchida discussed ways the company was looking to offset the production shortfall.
  • "Despite headwinds, we have reduced our losses more than we forecasted due to accelerated transformation, focused on rationalization and quality of sales while enhancing investments in new products and new technologies," he stated.
  • Nissan earnings call transcript.

TSMC could add 'tens of billions of dollars' to US chip investment - Reuters
  • Foundry giant Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (NYSE:TSM) could increase investments in its planned U.S. chip facility by "tens of billions of dollars" to allow for the production of more advanced chips.
  • Reuters sources previously said the Arizona fab could be one of six facilities that TSMC builds at the location over the next 10-15 years. Sources now say TSMC execs could decide to focus the second plant on the more advanced 3nm chip technology. The first fab will focus on the older 5nm process.
  • The 3nm plant could reportedly cost $23-25B.
  • Future plans for the Arizona site could include the production of 2nm and smaller chips.
  • TSM shares are up 1.4% pre-market.
  • Yesterday, TSMC rival Samsung increased its logic chip investment to $151B through 2030.
  • Earlier this week, research firm Gartner predicted that the global chip shortage will last until Q2 2022.

So this guy is in TX and can drive to at least 2 storage sites for vehicles waiting for chips. I wonder if they are dispersing them to get them out faster for when the chips show up?

I wonder if my gen 3 coyote control pack has a hope in hell of even showing up in 2021 :(

I have one sitting on my shelf. I don't think I will be using it so I can let it go for what I paid for it for a fellow SVTPer. I was going to 5.0 swap my Raptor

I wonder how they prioritize putting chips into stuff already sitting on a storage lot and waiting versus assembly line?

General Motors gains with some plants restarting next week after chip shutdown
  • General Motors (NYSE:GM) trades higher after announcing that it plans to restart production at five different assembly plants that have seen halted production due to a global semiconductor chips shortage.
  • The automaker is restarting operations at four plants in the United States, Mexico and Canada starting next week. GM will also resume full production at its Bupyeong 1 Assembly in Korea next week, which had been operating at 50% capacity since April 26.
  • The return of production by the Detroit automaker was highly anticipated, but the shock to the supply chain system is expected to still be felt.
  • Shares of GM are up 3.17% premarket. Peer Ford is more than 5% higher after a bullish update from RBC Capital Markets.

Well, at least in the case of Toyota, all of their models are 5-10 years old, if not older. They have not really been "chipified" in that there's not a ton of modules in them. Whereas GM and Ford have been a bit more progressive in the designs.

Also, i'd be interested to see what companies service what auto manufacturer. Ford and GM seems tied heavily to TSMC, which was their nail in the coffin.
