Unlike Tesla, you can power your house with it, details to come. Huge selling point.

After I sold My '04 Lightning late in 2012 I told myself "If they ever make another lightning, I'd be the first in line to get it."
I'm not getting one of these, Lightning always comes with thunder. Be it the atomization of the air or a roaring V8 (sometimes accompanied by a supercharger screaming Soprano.)
The only hope I have is that it makes real noises, like the electric motors whining, dear god something besides fake engine noises over the speakers. We know it will have stupid amounts of instant torque, and be faster than a >20 year old truck, but I doubt it hit's you in the feels like it's predecessors, besides this feeling from the news that is like getting hit in the nuts.

So... is it supposed to be an answer to the Hummer? That's sort of the vibe I'm getting from it and so it better be entirely different in almost every way to a normal F150.

No, it will be targeted towards fleet buyers in the commercial vehicle segment, so Ford is building its EV strategy around that. Electric Transits and F150s will be a part of its portfolio as those fleet owners pay close attention to the cost of ownership and Ford thinks these companies will be willing to pay more for an EV as long as the company gets it back in fuel and maintenance savings. Ford is keeping its EV strategy flexible and agile. That said, unless this F150 is on a unique platform for EVs, it represents major compromises.

Bingo

They are playing major catch-up right now in the EV realm. Some of the other guys have multi-year head starts on dedicated EV platforms and battery tech. They were also very late in establishing partnerships and co-development alliances, and left to pick over the scraps.

I'm curious what it will actually offer. I can't imagine it will be much more than an electric motor(s) shoved into the existing platform.. which will come at great compromise.

I like electric and see the future of it, but it can absolutely be botched when you try to retrofit/shove it into a platform not originally designed for it.

Why does it seem that everyone nowadays wants to take something that was good, and turn it into something else? They could have named it anything besides a "Lightning".

I'm waiting for a woke version of the movie Tombstone. Where Wyatt Earp (an Asian transexual) and his coming of age teenage friends (one of every gender and race) take down the racists Cowboy gang, and save the climate at the same time.

Meh, the big 3 have been playing with EV's for a long time. There just wasn't a way to make money off of them. Tesla only makes money selling carbon offsets, not on the actual cars. The mandates mean their will be no ICE to compete and that means EV's can be priced to actually make money. So figure cobalt, nickel and a few other ingredients needed will sky rocket, because there isn't enough now and everyone will get to pay a LOT more for transportation. Is anyone shocked that this dovetails nicely with the green plan to get people out of cars?

Surely not GM, Bolt was a failure, twice, Hummer is overpriced (built around a failed nameplate) and Lyriq looks like a bloated dud. GM has lots of promises about the future, but they sure aren’t basing that on the present. ‘All new’ Blazer vs. Bronco pretty much sums up today. Putting a leather jacket on Mary Barra isn’t fooling anybody, well, maybe a few.......
