Since the cyber attack on the Colonial Pipeline last Friday, 5/7, gas prices here in the Upper Midwest have remained the same ~$2.89/gallon.
Crude oil prices rise after Colonial Pipeline cyberattack

TV reports I just saw indicated that the pipeline will be back-up to 100% by the end of the week.

Sounds like it started in Russia. Is this retaliation for big mouth, no-brain biden calling Putin a "killer"? I think so.
Russia recalls US ambassador after Biden calls Putin a 'killer'

How are they in your location, especially on the East Coast?

What people don’t realize is how EASY this stuff is to “ hack “

its laughable the lack of security pipeline systems have.

So, I worked for one a very large pipeline company years ago

1. they have a control room ( a lot of them) but.. they have a person sitting in there making 60k a year. Imagine some group or place going to said person “ Here’s 5 million dollars for you to shut the **** up “ and give remote access

2. My pipeline facility where just me and one other guy worked years ago monitored 1 million barrels of crude a month. There was a chain link fence around the facility, and just a building with a door. Someone can jump a fence walk in turn on local access and divert oil

It’s not like a lot of these facilities are crazy password protected. Like I could VPN right into mine with one click on a crappy ass dell laptop.

Or hell they aren’t even confusing, the panel inside my old pipeline facility was legit just touch screen.. you push “ divert “ and it diverts ... you push shut down.. it shuts down.

Honestly, just as someone thats been in it, I’m honestly surprised it took this long.

bidens America is a ****in disaster.

Every time an entity is hacked it’s money in the bank for my wife. The cyber security in America is a joke. Watch what happens when some day the military is breached.
Companies do not like to spend lots of money to prevent hacks but when it happens to them they get bent.
Just last month in Massachusetts the car inspection system got hacked and was down for a month. I just sit back and laugh.

I think this is just another step toward the nationalization of the whole system. The "disaster in state run texas," this hack, just a hunch

All utility and other such infrastructure need to not be connected to any sort of network. This kinda reminds me of Battlestar Galactica, where the Galactica had no networked computers for the entire ship and why most things were ran analog save for FTL, Nav, and specific subsystems. The Cylons couldn't hack it if there was nothing there to hack. I think we should move to a similar system, run things analog and nothing networked should have any capability to render the system kaput in a few keystrokes. Yes it requires more labor/manpower, but the return is worth it.

The bullshit is just going to keep getting worse and nothing is going to stop it. I feel so sorry for future my kid is going to grow up in.

That's why we passed on kids. The future here looks bleak. Unfortunately, nowhere else is any better.

I've had many battle-royal with corporate IT types about how to integrate an industrial process into their corporate network. For many reasons, even beyond security. Almost all industrial devices these days (PLC's, VFDs, DC Drives, Sensors) communicate via Ethernet IP. Commingling of industrial and corporate networks is where folks botch the design. These two discrete networks need physical separation. Where the PLC or automation system needs to feed data into an upstream business system, there are good ways to do this without physically crossing the networks. Sadly most traditionally trained IT folks have no clue what is needed on the industrial side and, conversely, most industrial or automation engineers have no clue what is needed on the corporate side. Trying to convince a corporate IT guy that I need a range of static IP addresses on their network is nearly as bad as arguing with a liberal that there are only 2 genders.

Dumb idiots are running on gas stations here. Filled up on Sunday. Wife today. But nevertheless, this is more of a stunt than anything. The only shortages are the ones we are creating for ourselves

So you're saying I need to hoard all the toilet paper? And lumber? And chicken? And gas?
