The second amendment does not state "Right to bear arms, as long as one has a permit or shows proper training, shall not be infringed".

I do not believe in any permits or training requirements for firearm purchase/ownership. Training should be recommended, and IMO I think proper firearms use and etiquette should be taught in HS so people dont have a dumb idea of what guns are or how they function and work and how to safely use them. Then within a decade we can have a whole generation of young adults that arent gun-dumb like the current swath of them.

Agreed. I'm thinking about the people that can barely parallel park a car or figure out how to turn a computer on. Those people are inept and I don't look forward to the day they suddenly have a weapon on their hip

Born and raised Brockton. Living in Naples.
If liberals are on suicide watch because other people can now carry weapons as recognized by the Constitution ... well, the liberals were probably pretty close to it in any case.

You can’t alleviate other folks irrational fears for them.

We were long overdue, Texas loves getting money off you however they can. Liquor sales on Sunday, and extended to 10PM are up next I'll be contacting my state reps on that one, can't tell you how many times I've decided on a Sunday afternoon while smoking a brisket I want a bourbon. Now if we can get on board with doing away with front license plates.

This. It's not like I'm trying to get tanked on Sundays, but liquor sales should be allowed. And beer before noon on Sundays too. When kickoff is at noon and you forgot to plan ahead you miss the kickoff! LOL

He will, it's time for this spineless clown to pull his head out of his ass for the next year and make himself look good so he'll have something to stand on when our '22 elections roll out. You definitely don't want to piss off Texas gun owners so this is a step in the right direction. He's already pissed enough Texans off keeping our state locked down for as long as he did. Don't get me wrong I love the permanent "to-go alcohol" bill he passed especially when I get Mexican food, but in reality that was a half assed attempt to keep us happy so he could keep his fetish of not opening the bars. I can't wait to see who is planning on running against him, it'll be an uphill battle I imagine.

Abbott would be very, very hard to unseat. He has a huge war chest already, and a ton of high profile support. I've seen articles stating that Matthew McConaughey may run, I sure hope not.

Yea I saw that about McConaughey as well, he's got the charisma for the job and to run a high energy campaign and that's about it. I'll never trust the guy on any policy issue. I'd like to think he could surprise us but my gut feeling won't let me. Abbott's got the big donors no doubt, Texans need a leader as governor and he's not one, he just flips to whatever side is more popular.

Good chance you’ll be a quicker draw then, so all good.

Why? Only thing I can think of (besides more revenue for state through having to buy more plates, but dunno why LEOs would stand up for that exclusively) is it gives LEOs an easy target for laser

Good observation.

But the joke is on the Liberals: they don't have to recognize the Constitution. Because the rights spelled out in it do not grant citizens _anything_. It states up front that those rights come from humanity's creator, however your conscience and faith dictate your beliefs in your creator; and that the Constitution exists as a limit on the government; and is the government's acknowledgement of what it can not do.

I LOVE telling this to Liberals. The idea that the government has limits, not the people; the idea that the rights we have are not given by the government or the Constitution; and the idea that the Constitution recognizes an Authority higher than the government? I swear, it's like watching someone have a stroke.

The same exact logic will be used against you, bet on it. If it's a right, it's a right; yours, theirs, everyone's. Apart from being a convicted felon, you can't deprive anyone else of their rights, just as they can't deprive you of yours. There are dangers that come with living in a society, and your fellow citizens being idiots is right at the top. Any reason you use to limit someone else's rights can, and will, be used against you. History is littered with examples.
