Last Sunday I was able to get out for the first time this year, and the first time since last August or so. Incredibly green track, lots of moisture, and cool. Took a while to even be remotely confident the slicks were going to hold, but managed some decent times. Best I had on camera was the 1:45.404, I did run 3 1:44s throughout the day (reference, I was running consistent 1:41/42 last year).

I had scheduled to run all day, but after 4 sessions I took my 7 year old for lunch and when we came back he was helping me rotate tires side to side. I noticed an oily smell and looked underneath, it appeared my rear differential was leaking something terrible. It was really odd because there wasn't a trail leading to the garage or anything, just about a gallon of oil on the ground. Ended up loading up about 2pm and heading home. I didn't have time to get it on a lift until Monday night, but quickly found out it wasn't the differential, but rather the transmission. LUCKILY, it was just the vent line on top of the transmission that wasn't torqued down properly, which explained why there wasn't a trail leading to the garage. Once I turned the car off, the coolers stopped running and the fluid overheated and went out the vent. Last fall I replaced the slave cylinder and we must not have torqued it all the way when we put the transmission back in. I wasn't even all that upset as it cost me a few hundred dollars for fluid and what not, rather than an EMCO transmission overhaul.

Ready to go back out in a few weeks after there's some more rubber down on the track!

Sucks to hear about the problems you experienced. But damn it sounds so good in that video!

I was honestly pretty relieved once I figured it was a quick fix. Sucks I missed the afternoon sessions, but it's all good! It's early in the season!

I completely understand that relief. I'm glad it worked out the way it did, I'm excited to see some more footage later in the season!

Same here. Ready to get out there for some fast laps this year.

glad it turned out to be something minor!

Yes sir. I was sweating a little. A rebuild on the EMCO is about $13k and a new EMCO is about $25k.

Noice, car looks awesome
Unfortunately it looked a lot faster than it was haha

It was 99.9% the driver. It'd been way too long since I had been behind the wheel.

Oh I get it. Better to go easy on the first run out... I always go easy on day 1... Second day I went 10 seconds faster. Id be sharing my fast run but my gopro is somewhere out on the track lol.

Nice driving, Nick. Too bad you had a tranny mishap but the good news was it was only the cost of new fluid. One of the best looking Vipers I've ever seen. Looks like you've got it set up well for the track.

Luckily Bob, I've had to do very little.

When Dodge announced the Competition Coupe program back around 2001, I was just a little kid but absolutely loved the car and the idea behind it. I rode in Bob Woodhouse's #13 car in 2004.
