I agree TBI is lame....sort of...? I'm now learning that the achilles heel of these TBI trucks is the stock fuel pump.
They just don't flow enough to support much power/rpm.
Although the stock swirl port heads are junk...I swapped to crate Vortec and it still lays over at 4000 rpm...sometimes?
I now understand that the stock fuel pump in these trucks is just borderline of what I need. If I do a WOT pull through 2nd into 3rd, it lays over at 3500-4000. Go WOT in 3rd starting at 3500, it pulls hard to 5000! I need to diagnose with a gauge and wideband, but hopefully a new pump for a TPI f-body will be the solution!

I messed a round for YEARS in the early 2000's with this '95 350 TBI NV3500 truck before anybody really knew anything. I stuck a small Comp Cam in it, cause that's what you do with a SBC and man what a mess!! Speed density does NOT like the vacuum signal altered!!
I crutched it with a vacuum referenced fuel pressure regulator and it ran ok....but always laid over at 4000rpm! I wonder now, if I knew about the fuel pump problems...it might have been a lot more fun.

Yes and no.

TBI in and of itself is fantastic. I love them. THe 95, however, was the year right before CSFI Vortec motors which, as you know, brought MUCH better vortec heads and the "spider" injection system with a more true "high" pressure fuel injection.

The 95 TBI was a bastard one-year only system with smaller TBI injectors, but higher fuel pressure as GM experimented with the switch to eventual Vortec in 96. You are correct in that the fuel pressure/fuel pump was not sufficient in early years (88-94) being that the base pressure was 11-13 psi but in 95, the pressure was raised albeit with smaller injectors.

Long story short, the 95 TBI systems suck massive balls. They all lay over around the 3500 rpm mark (even the big block TBI stuff) but the 95s lay over HARD. It is very noticeable.

Ive owned more of these trucks than i can count and when im looking for one, it is either a <94 truck or a 96+ vortec. No 95's unless its show quality clean!! lol

This is my current dd and it is a 97. Has fantastic power and is averaging about 16 mpg overall per tank. Love this truck!

What are your plans for it?

First off will be to get it on the road and drive it a bit. Would love to do a full blown restoration on it. Was hoping to build a large camper on back and use it as my retirement truck to visit the grandkids in various different states during summer months and convert back n forth camper to flatbed so I can use it as a display-tow truck camping off season.

Unknown if I will do a full chassis swap to like a Penske type truck or swap drivetrain. As is would be fantastic for just local stuff but would not want to crisscross country on the stock 330 HD engine and stock brakes. Getting very difficult to find parts for these trucks.

Ford still sells cab & chassis the 2022 ones are out now then I would have full warranty. Will just play it by ear and see what is avail when time comes. First up is getting it home which will be huge undertaking.

Whatever you end up doing with it, you'll have a stellar truck. Keep us posted.

That, Doug, is a really awesome looking F150 XLT Sport. In large part, to me, because of the awesome Lead Foot paint.

Thanks, Bob! It's our family adventuremobile and I've been smitten with it over the last 3 years. I've upgraded the interior with Lariat seat skins, a Platinum steering wheel, and the suspension with a Fox 2.0 kit that I took a bit of "as delivered" lift out of, to maintain a very slight rake.

Doug, I saw a new Jeep yesterday with a very similar paint color. It's really growing on me, since I've always preferred a metallic paint. The more I see it, the more I like it!

Nice looking F150, @SIC9250. It has a Lightning vibe. Looks really, really clean for 280K miles. You obviously take good care of it.

I'm jealous you guys can have older trucks in such nice shape. Around here that would 100% be a rust bucket by now. Had to dump my 5.0 explorer a few years ago because of rust. Truck still ran great at 200K miles but nearly 20 Chicago winters took its toll on the body.

Same applies to trucks here in CT. The winters are pretty rough on vehicles, especially nowadays with the new de-icer chemical they lay down.

Im hoping that yearly coatings with Woolwax will keep our cars greasy but rust free up here, time will tell.

I had GREAT success with Krown rust proofing. It actually stopped rust where it already formed in the bottom of the doors and tailgate. It never got any worse for the next 7 years I had it Krown sprayed.
Obviously the protection is only as good as the application...the original guys that ran the shop did a great job...the later guys missed a lot of areas...

I am also super jealous of no rust climates!! I'm even OK with repairing body rust...but when the frame just dissolves...its game over.

That's terrible! There are so many nice examples of old trucks out west. This is my 1999 Dodge cummins. Not a spec of rust anywhere to be found. Definitely one of the (few) good reasons to live here.
