A week or so ago I was perusing FB market. I'm on it purely for the groups/market access. That's about it. Anyway, my luck turned into memory lane for me. Wanted to share.. I'll explain after I give you the story of the find.

Searched Cobra parts (or something like that). About halfway down a listing popped up "03 Cobra bumpper" (misspelled) with a picture blurry enough to be taken in 2005. It was posted for going 03/04 OE bumper rate. Opened up the ad, and zoomed in. Damn near can't see shit.. except for the very distinct fog light bezel of a 99-01 Cobra. It had been up for about a week, and the ad was short. But basically said complete, no tabs broken, firm on the price. I sold an absolutely trashed 99 Cobra bumper about 8 months ago for 600 and it was a frenzy of buyers. I knew a non-trashed 99/01 bumper is a rarity and worth a lot of money now so I rushed to get in touch with the guy.

Somehow, someway, I was the first to come look at it. We walked into his garage and low and behold, an absolutely immaculate 99/01 cobra bumper complete with OE bezels, fogs, and even the factory bulbs sitting there. Turns out the shop owner/this guy built cobras over the last two decades and this bumper came off a 40k mile 01 cobra in lieu of an 03/04 bumper around 2006. It sat in a garage attic for the last 14-15 years. He clearly had his years confused, but he didn't really care. They needed to get all the parts gone. I didn't even negotiate. Handed the guy cash and took it home.

Why I bring this up? It made me chuckle because I revisited the memories of when these cars were still newer. 99/01 cobras were "undesirable", the bumpers hated, and most were swapped to 03/04 body parts. When this bumper came off, it was basically trash. 15 years of sitting, it's worth the better part of a grand if not more being immaculate.

Fortunately it worked in my favor. My 3 core Procharger IC will fit behind it a lot better than my stock GT bumper. And naturally, look better too. But it was an interesting trip down memory lane to say the least.

Nice! I love finding stuff like that. Makes me miss my 01.

I actually met one of the svt engineers at Ford event about 10 years ago that was on the team during the development of the 2001 Cobra. We were BS’ing and he actually referred to it as a parts bin car which i thought was hilarious at the time. I never really liked the way they looked then. They just looked boring imo. Fast forward 10 years and I actually really like they way they look in stock trim, lowered with 18’s.

I feel the same way. It was less popular in it's day, but now if I had the chance to pickup a clean 99-01 for the price they used to, i'd easily jump all over it.

I'm the original owner of my 01. Was the first car I ever bought. They did get a lot of hate for being dogs but mine always ran decent. 13.3 @ 105 stock back in the summer of 02. Even though I'm not selling would like to see them get a little love.

Not the best pic but what I have... hardly ever drive it now. Need to get in the habit of driving it more. Parked it around 08 with 50K miles and now it has 62K on it.

Nice find, crazy how much these bumpers are worth. I've been fortunate to find a couple at a local junkyard, first one was $150 and second was $60. Money well spent.
